<strong>Tulane</strong> University<strong>Architecture</strong> <strong>Program</strong> <strong>Report</strong>September <strong>2013</strong>Computer AccessPublic access to computers has increased from 26 stations to 46, and now each studio is equipped with4 high-end workstations and a printer. S<strong>of</strong>tware packages installed in public computers have the latestversions <strong>of</strong> Adobe and Autodesk suites, as well as latest version <strong>of</strong> Rhino, MS <strong>of</strong>fice to mention a few.Lab computers are new for <strong>2013</strong> and host 32GB <strong>of</strong> RAM and i7 Processor, while the studio computershave 16GB <strong>of</strong> Ram and i7 Processors.NetworkingAll <strong>of</strong> TSA is equipped with the latest Wireless N technology to improve both throughput and range.Students have fast wireless access from their studio desks to connect to shared resources such as thefile server. Speed <strong>of</strong> the wireless system was upgraded by more than 8 times in the past several years.S<strong>of</strong>tware ProvidedFree s<strong>of</strong>tware availability has increased over the last 4 years. Some s<strong>of</strong>tware vendors like Autodesk arenow providing free licenses to students. TSA <strong>of</strong>fers Both Rhino and Vray free for student use.Autodesk Master Suite 2014 : Autocad, RevitAutodesk Entertainment Creation suite 2014: Maya, S<strong>of</strong>timage, 3D Studio MaxAdobe Creative Cloud 2014: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, AcrobatRhino V5, Vray 1.5MS Office (latest)Render FarmTSA now <strong>of</strong>fers a Rendering Farm using 15+ computers to help render one Rhino scene, this is a hugeboost in productivity for our students, not only saving them time to complete their final work but als<strong>of</strong>rees up the studio and computer lab during deadlines.Digital OutputOutput capacity has increased in the computer lab with a high-end multifunction scanner and printerthat can now handle 46 Pages per minute (opposed to 32 PPM previously). We have increased thenumber <strong>of</strong> plotters to 3, tripled the laser cutting capacity, and added a wide format scanner able tohandle large plans, a handheld 3D scanner, and a 3D printer available for faculty and students.Improvements have been made in the managing <strong>of</strong> the digital output services which include bettercommunication with faculty about deadline times and also s<strong>of</strong>tware queues that allow students tosubmit work and track their position in the queue.File StorageTSA has doubled the File Server storage available for faculty and students to 2 Terabytes. This Fileserver is available to faculty and students both on and <strong>of</strong>f campus.Public PrintingStudents are allocated $25 worth <strong>of</strong> printing per semester which they can use to print up to 11x17 colorpages. BW printers are available in every studio and Color is available in the main computer lab.Identification <strong>of</strong> any significant problems that impact the operation or services:During the past few years we have been challenged by increasing demand for more public computersand for more digital output. We have increased capacity to satisfy both <strong>of</strong> these demands.48
