PHYSICAL CONTROL IN CAREPREPARATIONFAIL TO PREPARE – PREPARE TO FAILThe instructor should have thought about the session in advance andmapped it out with due regard to what is known about the skill of theclass members and the time available.The session timetable is merely a guide, and the instructor should notfeel they must stick rigidly to it. Each course is different and theinstructor must use judgement and experience to decide how best touse the time available to the best advantage of the course members.It is none the less important that instructors cover the full lessonprogramme where possible and not get entrenched in delivering onlycertain aspects of the course.LESSON PLANIt is not possible to reproduce within this manual all the teachingpoints that instructors must necessarily relate to staff as only a briefdescription of the techniques and systems of PCC training is given.Instructors should expand on the outlined points by producing acomprehensive lesson plan for each session they are to take.INSTRUCTORS SHOULD NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO THEPROGRESSION IN WHICH PCC TRAINING IS TAUGHT, NORMAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS TO THE TECHNIQUES OUTLINED INTHIS MANUAL.INSTRUCTIONEffective training must be demanding, reproduce so far as is possiblethe operational situations within which the techniques will be used.Instructors must ensure that this is not achieved at the expense ofcourse members’ safety.© National Offender Management Service National Tactical Response GroupJuly 201045
