Thatta<br />

Thatta, about 98 km (61 miles) east <strong>of</strong> Karachi and was at one time Sindh's<br />

capital city and as a centre for Islamic arts. The main attractions <strong>of</strong> this city are the Great<br />

Mosque built by Moghul emperor Shah Jehan and bazaars famous for hand-printed<br />

fabrics, glass bangles and Sindh embroidery work inland with tiny mirrors, one <strong>of</strong>the<br />

more world known handicrafts <strong>of</strong> Pakistan (Pakistan tourism and travel guide, n.d).<br />

Mohenjodaro<br />

Mohenjodaro, also known as "mound <strong>of</strong> dead" is a 4000 year old ruin <strong>of</strong> ancient<br />

Indus civilization. This city is situated on the west side <strong>of</strong> Indus in northern Sindh, a one<br />

hour flight away from Karachi. The most imposing remains are those <strong>of</strong> the great bath<br />

which consisted <strong>of</strong> an open quadrangle with verandahs on four sides, galleries and rooms<br />

at the back, a group <strong>of</strong> halls on the north and a large bathing pool. And another important<br />

attraction is the museum that displays the relics and finds <strong>of</strong> excavations unearthed in<br />

1922. Thus, this city depicts the well planned and complex urban society that existed ages<br />

Inaddition to this, other attractions in Sindh include the old city <strong>of</strong> Hyderabad<br />

(second largest in Sindh), Kirthar National park, Kot Dijji and city <strong>of</strong> Sukkur in the<br />

northern part <strong>of</strong> Sindh with the famous landmark-Sukkur Barrage (Pakistan tourism and<br />

travel guide, n.d)<br />

NWFP (North-West Frontier Province) is over 1100 km (680) miles along the<br />
