Twenty-five thous<strong>and</strong> dollars reward will be paid for theapprehension <strong>of</strong> David C. Herold, another <strong>of</strong> Booth's accomplices.A liberal reward will be paid for any information that shall conduce to thearrest <strong>of</strong> either the above-named criminals or their accomplices.All persons harboring or secreting the said persons, or either <strong>of</strong> them, oraiding or assisting their concealment or escape, will be treated asaccomplices in the murder <strong>of</strong> the President <strong>and</strong> the attempted assassination<strong>of</strong> the Secretary <strong>of</strong> State, <strong>and</strong> shall be subject to trial before a militarycommission, <strong>and</strong> the punishment <strong>of</strong> death.Let the stain <strong>of</strong> innocent blood be removed from the l<strong>and</strong> by the arrest <strong>and</strong>punishment <strong>of</strong> the murderers.All good citizens are exhorted to aid public justice on this occasion. Herold, a fellow-conspirator, finallymade his way into Maryl<strong>and</strong>, where eleven days after the assassination thetwo were discovered in a barn on Garrett's farm near Port Royal on theRappahannock. The barn was surrounded by a squad <strong>of</strong> cavalrymen, whocalled upon the assassins to surrender. Herold gave himself up <strong>and</strong> wasroundly cursed <strong>and</strong> abused by Booth, who declared that he would never betaken alive.The cavalrymen then set fire to the barn <strong>and</strong> as the flames leaped up thefigure <strong>of</strong> the assassin could be plainly seen, although the wall <strong>of</strong> fireprevented him from seeing the soldiers.
