Frank Martin, Sr., began the practice in the mid sixties,” said Fran Stevenson. “Palmetto Family Medicine is truly family.” Dr. Martin Sr. is now deceased, but Dr. Martin Jr., who joined his father’s practice in 1989, carries on the family business. Dr. Martin Sr.’s daughter and granddaughter also work at the practice. Palmetto Family Medicine makes doctor visits convenient for their patients. Open Monday thru Thursday from 7:00am-7:00pm, Fridays from 7:00am-5:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am- 1:00pm, they also accept walk-ins. “We still schedule appointments,” Stevenson said, “but in the event of an emergency or illness, it’s much more convenient for patients to come here. Erin Peake Contributing Writer So often in today’s day and time, people aren’t appreciated enough for the things they do for others. But this community has a way of pulling together to help those in time of need. A labor of pure love has been the story of Becky Thompson’s adult life. When her sister was killed in a shooting accident, Becky and her husband, JC Thompson, took in all of five children that were left behind. “After the children were raised, I was called home to take care of my father,” said Becky. “Then another sister was stricken with cancer and I became her caregiver; cancer eventually took her life. Another sister also was diagnosed with cancer and I then became her caregiver.” After her sister’s death, Becky returned home to care for her father until his passing. She then became her mother’s caregiver, staying by her side until the end. Becky had given up her home as it was necessary to live with her parents in order to take care of them. Her husband JC was always supportive and helpful to Becky, but Hours: M-F: 8:30 - 6 Sat: 9-5 Kenny Mattox also came to help out with the loan of a backhoe from Bill Trapp tragedy struck again when JC suffered a stroke. After a leak under her home caused damage to her floors and foundation, family and friends came to her rescue and reinforced her foundation, made repairs to the floor and built new cabinets in the kitchen. It became known to others that she needed help tearing down some old sheds in the yard, and with an outpouring of love for this caring lady and her husband, friends and neighbors helped demolish the old buildings and hauled away debris and items that were to be discarded. Bryan Branham allowed them to use his dump truck to haul away everything, and Bill Trapp allowed Kenny Mattox to use his backhoe. The only way she knew how to thank these generous people for the wonderful and unselfish things they did was to serve them a homemade soup lunch. They all gathered around a table outside and enjoyed the wonderful meal and each others company. It was truly a day of labor of love, and a testimony to the wonderful community we live in.
