The relinquishment of office by former Premier Mbhazima Shilowa ushered in a new Premier,Paul Mashatile, former MEC for Finance and Economic Affairs in Gauteng. In addition, the contract of the formerDirector General, Mogopodi Mokoena ended and MaLlele PeTje, former head of the Gauteng Department ofEducation joined the Office of the Premier.2.3.6 Overview of Policy Developments for 2008/09The 2008/09 financial year also gave rise to two new functional areas for the Office of the Premier:• The incorporation of the Gauteng Youth Commission (GYC) until such time as it is established as separateinstitution.17
