APPENDIX 1 : SMARTFIRE VERIFICATION AND VALIDATION REPORTFigure 17 – Configuration for buoyancy flow in a duct2.6.1 ResultsIn this test case, SMARTFIRE predictions for the vertical velocity profile (mid way up thetest cell), temperature along the vertical centre line, turbulent fluctuations and turbulentviscosity are compared with published experimental data. The results produced bySMARTFIRE ( Figure 19 ) when compared with the results published in the reference [3](Figure 18, Figure 20, Figure 22 and Figure 24 ) demonstrate that the SMARTFIRE resultsare very close to the published results. In Figure 18, Figure 20, Figure 22 and Figure 24;‘LB’ stands for the turbulence model of Lam and Bremhorst [5], ‘PRESENT’ stands for theturbulence model devised by Davidson from which the figures shown here are taken [3],and ‘EXP’ stands for experimental data obtained by Cheesewright et al [6]. It should benoted that the LB [5] and Davidson [3] turbulence models are more advanced than thecurrent SMARTFIRE turbulence model [4].Appendix 11.1 Page 141-18 18
