President’s Statement35MICPA Anniversary Commemorative Lecture and LuncheonThis is the summit event in the <strong>Institute</strong>’s calendar of the year as it provides a platform for members of the accountancyprofession, Government, the regulatory authorities and the business community to get together and evaluate the mostpertinent issues affecting the <strong>Malaysian</strong> economy and the role of the accountancy profession.52rd Anniversary Commemorative Lecture<strong>The</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>’s 52nd Anniversary Commemorative Lecture washeld on July 14, <strong>2011</strong> at the Sime Darby Convention Centre.YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Lin See-Yan, President of the HarvardClub of Malaysia delivered the Lecture titled “Education andAccountancy”.<strong>The</strong> event was attended by over 220 invited guests, members,organisations and secretariat staff and received good mediacoverage in both the print and broadcast media.53rd Anniversary Commemorative Lecture<strong>The</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>’s 53rd Anniversary Commemorative Lecture washeld on March 27, 2012 at the Sime Darby Convention Centre.<strong>The</strong> function was graced by a very distinguished guest, YBSenator Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, Minister in the Prime Minister’sDepartment and Chief Executive <strong>Of</strong>ficer of PerformanceManagement & Delivery Unit (PEMANDU), who delivered theCommemorative Lecture titled “Economic TransformationProgramme (ETP) Update”.<strong>The</strong> Lecture provided enlightening insights on the progress ofthe ETP as well as the Government TransformationProgramme (GTP) focusing on the 6 National Key Result Areas(NKRAs): reducing crime, fighting corruption, improvingstudent outcomes, raising living standards of low-incomehouseholds, improving rural basic infrastructure and improvingurban public transport.Close to 370 invited guests, members, organisations,secretariat staff and members of the media attended the event.<strong>The</strong> event received good media coverage in both the print andbroadcast media.
