Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Suchots 6 bottles £650.00
Pascal’s Suchots, produced from old vines and located on a perfect site in the upper section
of the vineyard, is always an impressive wine and the 2010 is simply outstanding. The nose is
confident and assertive with bright fruit notes at the beginning, followed by complex savoury,
cedar and mineral characters. The palate is packed full of sweet, dark and ripe strawberry
flavours with melting, almost chocolaty tannins and a persistent, refreshing acidity which keeps
greatest wines of Vosne Romanée. Drink from 2016.
Clos de Vougeot Grands Cru 6 bottles £625.00
are in perfect harmony with the fine grain tannins. The finish is very persistent and long, hinting at
the greatness which will come with a few more years in bottle. Drink from 2016.
Domaine Simon Bize
The Domaine has a reputation for producing wines which consistently punch above
their weight and they are some of the best value in the Côte d’Or.
Patrick Bize was on fine form when we visited to taste his 2010s and he was clearly
very happy with the quality of the vintage. The Domaine has a reputation for producing
wines which consistently punch above their weight and they are some of the best value
in the Côtes d’Or. We have followed the wines for the last 25 years but the estate dates
back to the 1860’s. The vines are generally old and the yields are low and with Patrick in
charge the Domaine fully deserves its reputation as Savigny’s leading producer. Patrick
uses traditional methods in the cellar, avoids over extracting and is careful not to over
oak his wines in order to preserve the inherent elegance and balance of the fruit in his
wines. Tasting the 2010s from barrel to barrel, we were impressed by the elegance and
freshness of the whites and the wonderful purity of fruit and definition in the reds.
Bourgogne Blanc les Perrières £135.00
A lively and refreshing wine from a stony plot to the west of the village. The terroir expresses
itself on the finish with a lively mineral edge, a perfect foil to the soft, juicy citrus fruit flavours on
the mid palate. Mouth watering acidity gives persistence and length. This wine is all about charm
and elegance and it will be perfect to drink over the next few years. Drink from release.
Savigny lès Beaune Blanc £195.00
Immediately inviting on the nose with floral, ripe citrus characters with hints of brioche and
spices. There is an attractive tension on the palate between the soft stone fruit flavours and a
lively, refreshing acidity. Delicious now, but a wine which will age nicely over the next few years.
Drink from release.
Savigny lès Beaune Blanc 1er Cru Vergelesses £320.00
Pure grapefruit and stone fruit aromas abound on the nose but there is also great focus and
definition. This carries through to the palate where pure, stone fruits mingle with more subtle
white floral notes. There is great energy and persistence on the finish and while this wine will be
delicious young, it has the capacity to age well for five years or more. Drink from 2013.
Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru £995.00
A grand, complex wines which manage to combine great intensity of ripe citrus fruit with superb
elegance and persistence, supported by a refined mineral character with just a hint of white
truffles. There is a lot going on and this is a very young wine which will need some patience
before it reaches its full expression. Drink from 2015.
