Domaine Taupenot Merme
Red price per case in bond
Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru La Riotte £465.00
From vines with an average age of 54 years, some of which were planted as far back as 1937.
Lifted and wonderfully aromatic on the nose with lavender and violets floating over plenty of
red berry fruit and some soft clove and pepper notes. The palate flows with more fragrant
violet flavours, rounded red and black berry fruit and a confident tannic structure. This has an
excellent balance and real depth and should age magnificently. Drink from 2015.
Nuits St George 1er Cru Les Pruliers £475.00
This is a powerful structured wine with great intensity and depth. Dark savoury aromas with
herbs, dried fruits and grilled savoury characters follow through to a palate which is packed full
of sweet red berry fruits, balanced by masculine tannins. This is an impressive wine which has
the capacity to age very well. Drink 2017.
Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru La Combe d’Orveau £525.00
From vines averaging 94 years old, this wine combines power and finesse and has excellent
definition. Textured tannins give an almost chocolaty character to the wine and melt away in the
mouth, integrating seamlessly with the sweet, delicate strawberry and redcurrant fruit. Drink
from 2014.
Corton Rognet Grand Cru £550.00
A deeply flavoured, structured wine which is also extremely elegant. Described by Romain as
the “best Corton Rognet he has ever made” the nose is full of dense blackcurrant and blueberry
fruit characters while the palate is rich and dense with lovely, plump wild berry and dark cassis
flavours. This is all supported by firm tannins and a refined mineral note on the finish which is
extremely refined and satisfying. Drink from 2015.
Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru £750.00
There is lovely ripeness on the nose with notes of mint, gorse and wild herbs, with hints of
exotic spice. The palate is bold and punchy with sumptuous fruit and full, round tannins. This is a
confident and ultimately very appealing wine. Drink from 2015.
Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru £795.00
A very impressive wine which manages to combine power and opulence with great elegance
and freshness. On the nose, dark, sweet fruits mingle with exotic spices and a seasoning of
black pepper. The palate is sumptuous and dense revealing layers of succulent, pure red berry
fruit as it opens. Smooth, velvety tannins fill the mouth. Drink from 2016.
Domaine Aurélian Verdet
The results are fabulous, the wines showing a wonderfully vibrant and fluid character
with a very natural and pure fruit quality.
Aurélian Verdet is an incredibly enthusiastic and driven young vigneron whose father
was one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the early 1970’s. Aurélian carried on
the tradition following his father’s retirement in 2005. His Domaine now comprises
holdings in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Vosne Romanée villages, 1er Cru Beaux Monts,
1er Cru Nuits Damodes and Boudots all of which is organically certified. Aurélian’s
passion is in the vineyards which are meticulously tended to produce the highest quality
fruit. His approach in the cellar is one of minimal intervention with the use of very small
amounts of sulphur, a very gentle pressing and a softest possible extraction to express
the natural flavours of the grapes and the terroir. This is followed by ageing in barrels
of which only 40% are new. The 2010 harvest started on 25th September allowing
the grapes to reach perfect ripeness. The results are fabulous, the wines showing a
wonderfully vibrant and fluid character with a very natural and pure fruit quality.
Red price per case in bond
Vosne Romanée £295.00
A wonderfully pure, attractive wine with supple, juicy cassis and sweet plum aromas and
succulent, smooth berry fruit on the palate. Darker damson and fig characters in the background
give a slightly exotic quality, all of which is balanced by appealing, mouthfilling tannins and
great persistence and length. This wine will be simply delicious young but it has the power and
finesse to mature for many years. Drink from 2015.
Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Damodes £445.00
A wine with lovely, sweet, lifted aromas followed by exotic, almost sensual leather and spice
notes. The palate is concentrated and dense with great energy and fluidity and firm, velvety
tannins which provide magnificent structure but are barely perceptible. This is an accomplished,
harmonious and very attractive wine. Drink 2015.
Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Boudots £450.00
Pure, sweet redcurrant and cassis fruit aromas with hints of blueberries and violets. The fruit on
the palate is intense and juicy with a core of deep, dark, dense red berry fruits with lighter and
exotic spice and dried fruits notes in the background. This is a deliciously seductive and elegant
wine. Drink 2014.
Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Beaumonts £495.00
Deep, dark and powerful, this magnificent Vosne Romanée is packed full of rich, dark and
succulent fruit with seamlessly integrated, smooth tannins and notes of spices and sweet wild
herbs. This wine has masses of potential and will develop great complexity over the next decade
or so. Drink from 2017.
