Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils
The 2010s standing out compared to the last few vintages for their great freshness and
magnificent purity of fruit.
The 2010 harvest was carried out in excellent, relatively cool conditions at Bouchard
preserving the acidity and purity of fruit. The harvest started on 14th September and
carried on for two weeks, with grapes being picked at perfect levels of ripeness and in a
very healthy condition. The harvest was at least 25% down, for both reds and whites, due
to cold weather during flowering which resulted in the development of small but ultimately
concentrated berries. The quality of the wines is impressive and our tasting at the
Bouchard cellars in Beaune was most enjoyable, the 2010s standing out for their great
freshness and magnificent purity of fruit.
Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières 6 bottles £250.00
Bouchard has a significant holding in this great vineyard. The 2010 has an attractive bouquet
of white flowers with hints of acacia honey. On the palate, there is a lively mineral edge which
complements the mouthwatering citrus, stone fruit characters while a chalky, gun-flint note on
the finish gives further depth and complexity. Drink from 2013.
Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 6 bottles £520.00
A highly accomplished and elegant Charlemagne which combines delicate, stone fruit
characters and complex floral notes with great persistence and a wonderfully refreshing acidity.
Touches of spice intermingle with a heady floral bouquet, while notes of green apples, and stone
fruits combine with a chalky, delicate mineral note. An exceptionally well crafted and harmonious
wine with magnificent potential. Drink from 2014.
Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru 6 bottles £895.00
A wine with masses of potential which demands time to fully express itself. Delicate, spicy,
green apple notes on the nose only hint at the greatness to come. The palate is still restrained
but there is power and persistence behind the delicate white fruits and mouthwatering, mineral
character. This is going to be an exceptional wine. Drink from 2016.
Chevalier Montrachet La Cabotte Grand Cru 6 bottles £1,550.00
The Cabotte is more revealing than the Chevalier at this stage and seems to have even greater
depths. The bouquet has alluring white, stone fruit characters which intermingle playfully with
acacia floral notes and hints of brioche and spices. The palate is bursting full of attractive
and refreshing green apple and stone fruit flavours with spices and minerals on the finish but
underlying this there is great power and concentration. Drink from 2016.
Le Montrachet Grand Cru 6 bottles £1,800.00
A wonderfully complex and subtle Montrachet. Discreet at first it opens gradually in the glass
to reveal layers of delicate stone fruits with white floral characters, spices and minerals in the
background. On the palate pure citrus and green apple characters follow through with notes of
flint, chalk and white flowers and a very persistent and refreshing acidity. This a magnificent and
incredibly elegant and finely balanced wine. Drink from 2017.
Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils
Red price per case in bond
Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus 6 bottles £330.00
As always this is a very appealing wine but the 2010 seems to have reached a new level, such
is the purity of the sweet strawberry, red berry fruit and the wonderfully elegant, almost ethereal
violet notes. Complex dark fruit aromas emerge in the background but this is essentially a very
attractive and seductive wine. The palate has excellent definition with fine, seamless tannins
which combine harmoniously with the sweet, delicate fruit. Hints of wild herbs and mocha coffee
give further complexity and length. Drink from 2015.
Chambertin Grand Cru Clos de Bèze £820.00
The bouquet of this very expressive wine is full of sweet red fruits and spices with darker, mocha
notes in the background, combined with an attractive savoury quality. It has an amazing intensity
and freshness on the palate with layers of complex, dark berry characters mingled with exotic
spices, all in perfect balance with the racy tannins. This is a magnificent and incredibly elegant,
finely balanced wine. It may be glorious to drink even in its youth but should live to a ripe old age.
Drink from 2016.
Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 3 bottles £475.00
A beautifully integrated, elegant wine which combines power with great finesse. The bouquet is
full of sweet raspberries and cherries with a pure mineral note, and on the palate firm and fine
tannins perfectly balance the dense, red berry fruit. Minerals and spices come through on the
finish. There is a wonderful freshness and energy about this wine which is very long and complex.
It will age superbly but could be drunk in a few years time, such is the purity of the elegant fruit.
Drink from 2017.
