LIFEMAR 2011ITE CW KARTING &MOTORSPORTS CLUBStudents from ITE College West will now get a chance to learn about the various aspects ofmotorsports through the “Racing Team Technical Training Course”,the first of its kind in Singapore.With Singapore hosting the first Formula 1 nightrace, and the completion of Changi MotorsportsHub, interest in motorsports in Singapore has beenevolving rapidly. Crowds enjoy the fast speeds of suchraces and the detail and technology invested in suchFormula 1 machines.However what goes on behind every motorsportsevent, from the planning, to the logistics, to theoperation of the race team, is something that mostpeople would be interested in finding out.Not every layman will get a chance to experience themotor sports event and much to the conjecture isoften misconstrued. ITE College West will now set thisright by teaming with Kartmaster to conduct a “RacingTeam Technical Training Course” for ITE students. Thiscourse will help would-be motor sports aspirants togain a foothold into this glamorous sport.The course will be conducted by a renowned instructor,Mr Roland Chong. MAR 2011Motor Sports Association (SMSA), Mr Chong hasofficiated in the Singapore’s Formula 1 event.The scope of this course will include classroomsessions, rules and regulations, driving theory and kartpreparation before embarking on the practical aspectof the course. Those who make the grade will have achance to experience the real thing.They also will learn about the race management.Outstanding students will be engaged by other teamsin the Singapore Kart Championship (SKC) & Asia KartOpen Championship (AKOC) events.This event participation is considered on-job-trainingwhich is difficult to attain in daily life work experiences.This invaluable learning opportunity is the first of itskind in Singapore. On completion of this course, thestudents will be able to function in various team roles.Mr Chong is delighted that ITE sees the benefits ofthis course. It is not an easy task to train a traineeto be proficient in motorsports as they will experiencedealing with stress under a competitive environment.This will indirectly teach them invaluable lessons andnurture their ability to handle life situations.Karting is often used as a foundation for motor sportsactivities with Formula 1 being the pinnacle. This locallytrained pool of talents may one day become a “TeamSingapore” in the Formula 1 racing scene.
