C O M M I T T E E R E P O R T SSubstance Abuse CommitteeEach fall conference the Substance Abuse Committee (SAC) picks a local non-for-profit agency in the hostingcounty to receive the proceeds from the silent auction. This year we chose Carpenter’s Place of Rockford,Illinois. It is a homeless day center that service men and women. We were able to donate $150.00 aswell as men’s and women’s clothing, wallets, and coats to the agency. Thanks to all who participated in ourSilent Auction.At Fall Conference SAC hosted one workshop on “Breaking the Cartels”. SAC plans on hosting anotherworkshop at spring conference on “Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs”. We are also looing at developing futureworkshops regarding ICE, opiates addiction, and treatment options.This year we hosted the first “Committee Appreciation Day” at Starved Rock State Park in conjunction withthe Executive Board. The turnout was great but we are hoping to double the attendance next year. Additionally,Bart Perry of Will County received the Frank Calkins Committee Member of the Year Award which isin honor of another member of SAC. Congratulations Bart!It’s been a good year for the SAC, but we also have our eyes on the future. Please consider joining us! Allof SAC meetings are set for a Wednesday except for the Starved Rock meeting which is set for the 3rd Fridayin June. Also if youare in possession of any pictures from past conferences or events we’d like to see those too!
