C O M M I T T E E R E P O R T SRepresentative CommitteeThe Representative Committee, which consists ofthe chairs of all 18 committees, met briefly at FallConference in Rockford. One highlight of beinga part of this committee is the opportunity to recognizefellow IPCSA Committee membersthrough the Frank Calkins Committee Member ofthe year award. This year, Will County Adult ProbationSupervisor Bart Perry, a longtime memberof the Substance Abuse Committee, was selectedas this year’s recipient. Congratulations Bart! The Representative Committee also extends ahuge thank you to all committee members whodedicate their time and expertise to the Association.Without you, the important work we do andour voice in Springfield would not exist. In other news, Representative Chair Tracy Burke-Carriere stepped down following her election tothe position of President-Elect. Following her resignation, the Executive Board appointed DeborahNorman, Lake County Probation, to this position.Deborah brings a great deal of experience workingwith the Association to this position. She hasbeen a member of the Substance Abuse Committeesince 2001 and a Co-Chair since 2008.Finally, Committee membership is one of themost rewarding ways that a person can participatein the Association. The Representative Committeeurges all members to get involved, meet colleaguesfrom across the state, and make the mostout of your membership in the Association. Remember, the Association represents you but weneed to work together to be heard. For more informationabout the Association or any committeego to www.ipcsa.org, like us on Facebook, or contactDeborah Norman, Representative CommitteeChair, at the Lake County Probation Departmentat 847-377-3660. Rod Verdineresigned as co-chair and was replaced by Joyce Ricciof Tazewell County. The committee has decidedto collect items for the ADV/SAS shelter (a shelterfor abused women and their children) at the springconference in LaSalle County (hosted by the 13 th JudicialCircuit). A list of items the shelter could usehas been obtained and will hopefully be printed inthis or a future issue of the Outlook. One of the sessions during the conference talkedabout dealing with girls and women on probationand in detention. It was presented by Melissa Spoonerand was very well attended. Another session thatwas presented twice on Thursday by Andrea Juarezwas in an open area below and behind the conferenceregistration area, and it was very interesting tosee those at the registration area turning around tosee and hear her speak. Although not specifically aGender Specific Speaker, she spoke of the abuse inher past and how she escaped from that life.Due to lack of funds we are seeing fewer people ableto make meetings as their circuits are sending fewerpeople to conferences. We will meet next at theSpring Conference on Wednesday at 11:00 am.Hope to see you there.21
