QUICK SIX
Guiding the Swans Reserves in 2011 will be Swans
Development Coach Henry Playfair.
Playfair’s playing career came to end 2010 after suffering
a back injury, but the former key forward said he was
enjoying life as coach.
“I’ve had a great preseason working with the Swans
development squad,” Playfair said.
“As a player, you probably don’t appreciate how much
work goes into everything behind the scenes, but in the
coach’s department we are doing a lot of analysis and
preparation, and that is something I’ve really enjoyed,”
he said.
“Last season was a fantastic year of development for all
of our younger players, highlighted by the fact we were
able to field five senior debutants, the majority of whom
started with the Reserves.
“Throughout the pre-season we have been able to give a
number of young players a crack at senior football and
I’m looking forward to seeing who can step up and really
challenge our senior players for spots in 2011,” Playfair
said.
The Swans first selection in the 2010 national draft,
Lamb is a crafty small forward who is deadly around
the GWS GIANTS at ANZ Stadium.
new recruits. - Luke Parker
Parker is a tough, inside midfielder, recruited with
pick 40 in the 2010 National Draft. He has exceeded
expectations during the preseason and shown enough
to suggest he will push for senior selection in 2011.
new recruits. - Alex Johnson
Johnson was selected at pick 57 in the 2010 National
Draft. At 193cm, he is capable at either end of the
in the Swans Reserves practice matches. Johnson
has impressed the Swans coaching staff with his
competitiveness and the strong presence and voice he
has out on the field.
new recruits. - Eugene Kruger
Relatively new to Australian football after playing
rugby union for much of his youth, Kruger was rookie
listed by the Swans after a promising season with the
East Coast Eagles in 2010. Kruger possesses outstanding
running ability and led the pack during throughout the
Swans pre-season.
new recruits. - Ben Haren
A rookie from South Australia who is a key forward
prospect. It is expected Haren will take some time
to develop in the Reserves this year, but his strong
hands and nice set shot, has already seen him prove
dangerous. He booted three goals in a recent practice
match against the GWS Giants.
new recruits. - Max Otten
Max is the brother of Adelaide Crows defender Andy
Otten. He was rookie listed by the Swans in the 2010
interrupted preseason but has played two recent
practice matches with the Reserves.
