QUICK SIX
2011 marks the 40th Birthday of the formation of the
Belconnen Football Club when the Turner Football Club
moved out to the newly formed Belconnen district in
1971. Over the past 40 years the club has enjoyed and
endured both the best and worst that football can
offer. These times have forged the strongest friendships
and relationships and the club will be celebrating this
milestone at this year’s 100 Club dinner. We invite all
past players, officials and supporters to register their
interest by email to football@belconnenmagpies.com.au
This season we are proud to be a foundation club of the
NEAFL competition and we are excited by the challenge
that this brings. We would like to welcome to the club a
new senior coach in Michael Horne. Michael has brought
a wealth of enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to the
role and has already put his stamp on this new group of
players. We would also like to welcome the new players
and their families that have joined us from interstate.

Coming of Age: Ryan Turnbull
After 6 years of senior football, 83 first grade games, 3
years as an ACT representative player and a First Grade
Premiership under his belt 22 year old Ryan Turbull still
has room for improvement. Since winning the Best 1st
Year Senior Player in 2006
New Recruit: Andrew Dess
While University studies have brought Andrew to
Canberra, he is keen to make an impression at the
club that his father captained when Alex Jesaulenko
coached in 1988 and 1989. From Lavington in the Ovens
& Murray League, Andrew joins his younger brother

Superstar: Simon Curtis
Simon Curtis is already a stand out player amongst those
in the know at BMFC. Simon prepares himself each week
as good or better than any other player. He has the
motor to run through the midfield if required, however
he has earned his reputation as a creative, running half
back who can also shut down any key forward in the
comp.
The Rock: Rhys McAlister
Since joining the Magpies in 2009 Rhys McAlister has
earned the reputation as Mr Reliable down back. What
he lacks in height, he more than makes up for with brute
strength and agility to match it with the best forwards
in the competition. Another one who prepares himself
well each week,
Hard as Nails: Lexie Bennett
Lexie Bennett is to Belconnen Magpies what Steve
Waugh was to the Australian Cricket team and Brett
Kirk was to the Swans. He is a custodian of the history
and traditions of the club and he passes on the cultural
values and expectations to the junior players and to
those who are new
Big Improver: Lachie Harper
Write down this name… Lachie Harper. As a 16 year
old he has stamped himself as the Big Improver at
BMFC over the summer. Another one from a Belconnen
Magpies family, (father John is a former senior coach,
player and current U18 coach) Lachie is a hard running
utility player who has impressed coaches with his
composure and steely resolve.
