TUSCULUM COLLEGE 2004-2005<br />

Social Responsibility. Prerequisite: MUSE 310 or permission of instructor.<br />

Offered every other year.<br />

MUSE 350. SPECIAL TOPICS.<br />

The purpose of this course is to offer students opportunities to engage<br />

in selected study that includes mini-research projects into the actual<br />

problems encountered in a museum. This course may be taken for credit<br />

multiple times on various topics. Competency: negotiated. Prerequisites:<br />

MUSE 101.<br />

MUSE 401. SEMINAR ON NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT.<br />

This survey of museum organization covers policies, ethics, types of<br />

authority, relations to the public and supporters, budgets, fund accounting,<br />

fund-raising, and long-range planning. The course will explore<br />

museum marketing, government relations, and job opportunities in<br />

the field. The course will include attendance at a museum association<br />

meeting. Competencies: Self-Knowledge and Ethics of Social Responsibility.<br />

Prerequisites: MGMT 211 and three courses from the MUSE<br />

200-300 series, or permission of instructor.<br />

MUSE 402. MUSEUM INTERNSHIP. Minimum 12 semester hours.<br />

This internship will be under the guidance of faculty in an actual museum<br />

setting, putting into practice all the previous courses and introducing<br />

the student to the professional museum world. Content of each<br />

internship will be based upon a contractual agreement between the<br />

student, the museum, and the Director of Museum Studies. The<br />

student’s grade will reflect input from outside evaluators. Competency:<br />

Civility. Prerequisites: 3 courses from the MUSE 200-300 series or permission<br />

of instructor.<br />

MUSE 450. INDEPENDENT STUDIES – MUSEUM RESEARCH.<br />

This course is designed to give the student advanced experience in<br />

research, analysis, and writing about a special project to be used by a<br />

museum. Topics or subjects selected governed according to the interests<br />

and specialties of faculty and students. Student will meet with<br />

faculty periodically to review progress. Competency: negotiated. Prerequisites:<br />

at least 12 credit hours in museum studies and permission<br />

of the instructor.<br />
