Family Values
kevin and Chris Greathead
In this issue Katie Simmonds
interviewed father and son, Kevin and
Chris Greathead, who work in the
Sunderland area. The Greatheads
have been with the company for 4
years, seeing them both start life on
the tools and progress with their
careers to become Site Manager and
Assistant Site Manager.
KS: Please give me a brief summary
of your roles.
KG: As a site manager I liaise with
other site managers and the client,
whilst visiting, surveying and planning
work. I also organise the teams to
carry it out, oversee all work is
carried out safely and then measure
the value of work completed.
CG: My role is to liaise with the client,
help programme the work for the
teams and measure its value.
Manage all paper work including
gathering all information ready for
invoicing to the client, site surveys
and produce as laid records.
KS: How does being father and son
impact on your working relationship?
KG: As we are both on the same
contract, which is relatively new, we
both work very close to each other -
it has positive and negatives! Mainly
positive as we both know what the other
expects and we respect each other
and keep work and home life separate.
CG: We mostly work together in the
office when we carry out planning
and paperwork but when out on site
we try to divide most of the area
between us so see less of each other
on site. It’s a healthy balance, any
more might be seen as too much. We
both have a lot of respect for each
other with how much effort we put
into what we do and respect for our
knowledge and different skills. Being
father and son impacts a vast
amount on our working relationship
as we can both express ourselves
more cohesively when dealing with
certain problems and situations.
KS: What is your view of working
closely with your own family unit and
working for a family owned company
whose delivery ethos is very much
based around family values?
KG: It is an excellent opportunity
especially for Chris as Clancy Docwra
is ensuring he achieves his own
personal goals through his continued
development. As a father I am proud
to be a part of a company who support
you and your family and is successful
within their family values ethos.
CG: Family values are a significant
factor within the company and I hold
the same values. Family is very
important to me and working
alongside my dad is a great
opportunity as I am learning from
him and others all the time. It’s a
great opportunity to work for a
company who understand and
maintain a family orientated ethos,
knowing that the support and
assistance will always be available.
KS: What does the 6S Vision
personally mean to you?
KG: The 6S Vision is a very clear and
focused standard set out by the
company in which it means a lot to
me as it gives a good insight to
where the company wants to be now
and for the future which makes it
very hard not to be a proud
representative of a company who
look for continuous development and
improvement.
CG: I agree the 6S Vision is very clear
and focused with its goal to deliver
the companies vision of where they
want to be up to 2015. From entering
this line of work from the civil side at
a relatively young age and developing
into management, what the company
portray through the 6S Vision is
exactly how the company have
developed me. For that the 6S Vision
personally means a lot to me with
the company always trying to
improve into the future and
sustaining tomorrow’s people.
KS: Many thanks for your time. :o)
