in questo numero parliamo
della provincia di Pesaro
Urbino. In linee generali la
dinamica di sviluppo del
settore, iniziata negli anni
’50 e non si è sviluppata
equamente in tutta Italia, e
quello che ha fatto e che fa
ancora la differenza, è il
carattere degli imprenditori,
il loro modo di pensare, di esprimersi, di guardare lontano,
di essere curiosi per i nuovi materiali e le nuove tecnologie,
di accettare le innovazioni e, naturalmente “volere fortemente
lo sviluppo della propria azienda”.
In quel periodo in tutta Italia operavano aziende artigianali,
che con il boom economico di quegli anni hanno iniziato ad
assumere, nell’arco degli anni, una dimensione ed una
struttura industriale.
A quei tempi erano famosi e ricercati i “Mobili della Brianza”
prodotti a Nord di Milano e al confine sud della provincia di
Como, ma concentrazioni industriali si svilupparono anche
in altre zone. Per il mobile in stile, la provincia di Verona
diventò un riferimento a livello nazionale.
Il mobile Marchigiano della provincia di Pesaro si impose
per la buona qualità nella fascia medio - economica.
In Veneto e Friuli le industrie del mobile si svilupparono e
nacque anche il fenomeno del “fornitore terzista” di semilavorati
e componenti. La nostra Casa Editrice dalla sua fondazione
(a Milano nel marzo 1982) si è sempre occupata di
ricerche di mercato nel settore con l’obiettivo di fornire agli
addetti ai lavori una precisa situazione del settore “legnomobile-componentistica”
e per questo l’evoluzione delle
gestione dei dati ha avuto dalla cibernetica un impulso
notevole. Dal Gennaio 2000 con la fondazione della seconda
nostra Casa Editrice a Canterbury/UK è entrato in funzione
il motore di ricerca internet www.datalignum.com che
oggi ha 112.265 nominativi mondiali.
Da questo sono estratti i 178 di produttori della provincia di
Pesaro-Urbino che pubblichiamo nelle 4 pagine dei tabulati
Our research into the structure
of the furniture industry
in Italy continues, and following
on from “The Province
of Treviso”, the report published
in the previous issue of
Datalignum, this time we will
be taking a look at the province
of Pesaro Urbino. Broadly
speaking, the development
of the sector, which began in
the Fifties, did not proceed at
the same pace all over Italy.
What made – and indeed
continues to make – the difference
was the character of
the entrepreneurs, their way of thinking, their ability to express
themselves and their farsightedness, their curious approach
to new materials and new technologies, their ability to take on
board innovation and, of course, their “keen desire to make
their businesses grow”. At that time there were craft businesses
operating throughout Italy. Thanks to the economic boom
of those years, those businesses gradually began taking on an
industrial dimensions and structure. Especially famous during
this period was the popular “Brianza furniture”, produced
north of Milan and on the southern edge of the province of
Como, although groups of industries also developed in other
areas. The province of Verona became renowned all over Italy
for classic furniture. Furniture from the province of Pesaro, in
the Marche region, acquired a good reputation for quality in
the low-medium price bracket. In the Veneto and Friuli
regions, furniture firms developed, as did the phenomenon of
subcontracting for the supply of semi-processed materials
and components. Our publishing house, since its foundation
in Milan in March 1982, has always dealt with market research
in the sector, with the aim of providing operators with a clear
picture of the situation in the “wood-furniture-components”
sector, and advances in data management have been given a
considerable boost by cybernetics. The foundation, in
January 2000, of our second publishing house in Canterbury
(UK) coincided with the establishment of the internet search
engine www.datalignum.com, which today contains 112,265
names from all over the world. It is from this source that we
have taken the names of the 178 manufacturers published in
the 4 pages of tables, all of which are complete with address,

telefono e fax, e-mail e web. Per industrie intendiamo aziende
che hanno minimo di 10 addetti.

Urbino e con gli industriali del settore, è sintetizzato nella
intervista a Valter Scavolini.
Per quanto riguarda le tipologie produttive per i mobili, nel
nostro motore di ricerca www.datalignum.com queste sono
10 e per Pesaro-Urbino abbiamo aggiunto anche la tipologia
del “Contract-Allestimenti” poiché in questa area si sono
sviluppate industrie specializzate in questi due comparti
d’attività, e le estrazioni hanno messo in rilievo i risultati che
evidenziamo nella tabella stampata.
In Pesaro Urbino esistono anche industrie di servizio, di
tutto rispetto che producono semilavorati per l’industria del
mobile come la Lomarpref di Urbino, ma non sono state
inserite in questo capitolo. I nomi possono sempre essere

Occorre chiarire, soprattutto per il lettore estero, che Pesaro
Urbino è una delle 5 Provincie della Regione Marche.
Le altre sono: Ancona, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo e Macerata.
Quale esempio della nostra conosenza del mercato, citiamo
alcuni esempi. Oggi in tutta le Marche, delle 11 tipologie

Pesaro-Urbino and with industrialists in the sector is described
in the interview with Valter Scavolini, published further on.
Our search engine www.datalignum.com identifies 10 types
of furniture produced; for Pesaro-Urbino we have also added
“Contract/Fit-Out”, because in this area a number of companies
have developed that specialise in these two segments.
The data from these segments highlight the results indicated
in the table. In Pesaro Urbino there are also important companies
that serve those in the sector, producing semi-processed
materials for the furniture industry, such as Lomarpref in
Urbino; these have not been included in this chapter, but their
names can be looked up in the specific file at www.datalignum.com.
It is worth pointing out, for our foreign readers in
particular, that Pesaro Urbino is one of the 5 provinces that
make up the Marche Region, together with Ancona, Ascoli
Piceno, Fermo and Macerata. A few examples of our knowledge
of the market are indicated below. Throughout the
Marche region there are currently 243 companies producing
the 11 types of products mentioned, 178 of which are in the
province of Pesaro-Urbino (for the names and locations, see

dichiarate ci sono 243 industrie, mentre quelle della sola
provincia di Pesaro-Urbino sono 178 (vedi i nomi nei tabulati
e l’ubicazione nella carta geografica). Le industrie che
producono cucine sono 24: Aster, Berloni, Biefbi, Capucci,
Ciamaglia, Composit, Cucinesse, Ernesto Meda, Errebi,
Eurosole, Febal, Fiamberti, Imab, Isam, Kappa, Linea
Emme, Mobilificio Fogliense, Novalinea Due, Nuova Vitali,
Oikos, Pedini, Scaldaferri e Scavolini. La tipologia produttiva
dei tinelli/soggiorni (sono 63) e camere da letto/armadi
(sono 89) è la più numerosa e questi due comparti sono
spesso similari e si sovrappongono perché, chi produce
camere da letto normalmente produce anche tinelli/soggiorni
e nella realtà il totale di queste è di 102 industrie. I
produttori di mobili da ufficio sono 9, mentre quelle dei
salotti/poltrone sono 32. Gli interessati possono chiedere la

Come detto, le industrie del mobile in Provincia di Pesaro-
Urbino sono 178 e producono 11 tipologie di mobili: cucine
(A), soggiorni/tinelli (B), camere/armadi (C), bagni (D), uffici
(E), salotti/poltrone (F), tavoli/sedie (G), ingressi/altri mobili
(H), giardino (I) e mobili in stile (L).
Occorre ricordare al lettore che molte industrie producono
diversi tipi di mobili affini tra loro, esempio: cucine e bagni;
tinelli e camere da letto; salotti e sedie, etc. etc.
Qui di seguito pubblichiamo una tabella che mostra le tipologie
produttive preminenti delle 178 industrie, codificate in:

furniture, accounting for the largest proportion
of the total. These two segments are similar, and there is a
considerable degree of overlap between them, because those
that make living room/kitchen-diners furniture generally also
make wardrobes/bedroom furniture, so the total number of
companies actually comes to 102. There are 9 companies
that produce office furniture, and 32 that make lounges/lounge

As indicated above, there are 178
furniture companies in the Province of Pesaro-Urbino, producing
10 types of furniture: kitchens (A), living rooms/kitchendiners
(B), bedrooms/wardrobes (C), bathrooms (D), offices
(E), lounges/lounge suites (F), tables/chairs (G), entrance
halls/other furniture (H), garden (I) and classic furniture (L). It
must be pointed out that many of these companies produce
more than one related type of furniture; for example kitchens
and bathroom furniture; kitchen-diners and bedroom furniture;
lounges/chairs, etc. The table below shows the main type(s)
of furniture produced by the 178 companies, with the letter
codes as indicated above:

Da questo si comprende come la produzione delle 178
industrie del mobile della provincia di Pesaro-Urbino sia
diversificata, sia nelle tipologie che nella modellistica.
La produzione di gusto moderno è quella dominante, mentre
solo 13 industrie su 178 producono mobili in stile (soggiorni/tinelli,
camere, cucine, salotti, etc. etc.
Da una nostra stima del numero degli addetti ai lavori, nei
comparti di attività sopra citati, nella provincia di Pesaro
Urbino sono oggi circa 5.800.
Come ha dichiarato l’Avv. Salvatore Giordano, Direttore
Generale dell’Assindustria di Pesaro-Urbino “Il mobile pesarese
ha le carte in regola per riprendersi una leadership
nazionale”. Riprendersi perché negli ultimi anni la struttura
mobiliera nelle Marche e più specificatamente nella provincia
di Pesaro, ha perso eclatantemente posizione e si è ridimensionata.
Per dimostrare quanto detto, pubblichiamo le
statistiche diffuse sul N° 18 Novembre/Dicembre 1985 di
Datalignum dove a pagina 32 venivano pubblicati i seguenti
dati: Le industrie del mobile nelle Marche erano 417 con
13.766 addetti. Tralasciamo ogni commento, ed ogni lettore
potrà fare le sue considerazioni.
From this table, it is clear that the 178 furniture companies
in the province of Pesaro-Urbino produce both different
types and different models of furniture.
Modern styles account for the lion’s share, while just 13
companies produce classic models (living room/kitchendiners
furniture, bedroom furniture, kitchens, lounges, etc.
According to our estimates, around 5800 people are currently
employed in these segments of the furniture business
in the province of Pesaro Urbino.
In the words of Salvatore Giordano, Managing Director of
Assindustria in Pesaro-Urbino “Furniture from this province
has all it takes to regain a leadership role in Italy”. He uses
the word “regain”, because in recent years, the furniture
industry in the Marche region, and particularly in Pesaro,
has contracted sharply, plummeting down the table in Italy.
As a demonstration, it is sufficient to take a look at the figures
on page 32 of issue no. 18 (November/December 1985)
of Datalignum: at that time, there were 417 furniture companies
in the Marche, employing 13,776 people.
Any further comment is superfluous: readers may draw their
own conclusions.

INTERVISTA ALL’ AVV. SALVATORE GIORDANO, DIRETTORE
GENERALE DELLA CONFINDUSTRIA DI PESARO E URBINO
Nell’ambito del nostro programma per la conoscenza delle
aree di concentrazione industriale mobiliera, ci siamo recati
a Pesaro ad intervistare l’Avv. Salvatore Giordano, Direttore
Generale della Confindustria di Pesaro.
Avv. Giordano, ci può descrivere
cosa è successo negli ultimi anni?
Il settore del Mobile, nella Provincia di
Pesaro Urbino, si è profondamente
modificato nel corso degli ultimi anni.
Alla crisi cronica del mercato italiano, a
fine 2008, si è aggiunta quella internazionale.
Ovviamente, a farne le spese,
sono state soprattutto le aziende più
piccole: quelle artigiane e quelle industriali
che non facevano dell’innovazione
e della ricerca della qualità i propri
punti di forza. Oggi, la crisi ci riconsegna
un settore profondamente modificato,
sia dal punto di vista quantitativo
(molte aziende sono scomparse) sia
da quello della qualità.
In questa situazione caotica, comunque,
hanno resistito tutti quei marchi che non hanno modificato
nel corso degli anni il proprio core business e che, a
differenza di altri, sono riusciti ad investire anche in una
situazione depressiva: investimenti in design, in ricerca, in
nuove forme di comunicazione.
Com’è l’attuale situazione del mercato?
L’industria manifatturiera, che caratterizza fortemente l'economia
della nostra provincia, realizza a livello nazionale circa
1/3 del Pil del Paese e assicura 8 milioni di posti di lavoro.
Circa l’80% delle esportazioni italiane è strettamente legato a
questo settore, grazie al quale si riescono a pagare le bollette
per l’approvvigionamento energetico, che è tra i più costosi
d’Europa. Il nostro sistema economico vive ormai da tempo
una delle crisi economiche più profonde che ha investito il
nostro sistema produttivo e, purtroppo, i segnali di miglioramento
sono ancora flebili. L’economia provinciale presenta,
infatti, un andamento schizofrenico: a periodi di ripresa succedono
velocemente situazioni di mancanza di commesse.

The Industrial Enterprises Association of Pesaro and Urbino
is a very important structure for market insight, promotion,
and local development. To gain some insight on the problem
areas we went to interview its Director General, Mr. Salvatore
Giordano, Attorney at Law, who kindly
responded to our questions:
What has happened in recent years?
The Furniture industry, in the Province
of Pesaro and Urbino, has experienced
tremendous change in recent
years. In addition to the chronic crisis
of the Italian market, the international
crisis hit in late 2008.
Obviously, it was mostly the smaller
companies who bore the brunt: those
small-scale and industrial businesses
that failed to make innovation and
quality their strong points.
Today, the crisis has handed back an
extremely different industry, both in
terms of quantity (many companies no
longer exist) and in terms of quality.
However, in this chaotic situation all the brands that over
the years did not make changes to their core business survived
and, unlike the others, were able to invest even in a
depressing situation: investments in design, research, new
forms of communication.
The current situation of the economic market?
The manufacturing industry, which strongly characterizes
the economy of our province, at a national level accounts
for about 1/3 of the country’s GDP and provides 8 million
jobs. About 80% of Italian exports are closely related to
this sector: thanks to which energy supply bills, which are
among the most expensive in Europe, can be paid.
Our economic system has long been experiencing one of
the hardest economic crisis to hit our production system
and, unfortunately, there are only faint signs of an upturn.
The Provincial economy has, in fact, a schizophrenic
trend: periods of recovery can quickly change into situations
with no orders. Our industry is still experiencing a
condition of suffering, although we mustn’t overlook the

za, anche se non va trascurato il dato positivo dovuto alle
esportazioni. L’andamento favorevole, infatti, interessa
soprattutto le aziende che si rivolgono ai mercati internazionali.
I livelli produttivi hanno fatto registrare, rispetto allo
stesso periodo del 2010 una diminuzione pari al 3,6%. Le
variazioni avute sul piano commerciale evidenziano un
incremento delle vendite totali pari al 2,6%, frutto di una
riduzione dell’1,1% sul mercato interno, a fronte di una
discreta ripresa delle vendite all’estero, dove la percentuale
di incremento anno su anno è piuttosto significativa
(+20,9%). Rispetto al trimestre precedente l’andamento è
leggermente diverso in quanto si registra un +2,6% sull’interno
e un -1,5% per i mercati esteri.
E le prospettive future?
Il futuro passa attraverso il raggiungimento di due obiettivi.
Il primo, sul quale stiamo puntando forte come Confindustria,
insieme alle altre associazioni di categoria, passa attraverso
la creazione di Reti d’Impresa: è impensabile non essere sui
mercati internazionali e non esserlo nella forma più stabile e

engaged with international markets.
Production levels recorded, compared to the same period
in 2010, a fall equal to 3.6%.
The changes had on the marketing plan show an increase
of total sales equal to 2.6%, the result of a reduction of
1.1% on the domestic market, against a moderate recovery
of sales abroad, where the year on year percentage
increase is quite significant (+20.9%).
Compared to the previous quarter, the trend is slightly different
recording +2.6% on domestic and -1.5% on foreign
markets.
Outlook. The future depends upon achieving two goals.
The first, which we as Confindustria together with other
industrial associations are strongly investing in, is the creation
of Business Networks: it is unthinkable to not be on the
international markets and not be so in the most stable and
consolidated form; this means, therefore, that companies,

compatta possibile; significa, dunque, che le aziende,
anche le più piccole, dovranno misurarsi su progetti di collaborazione
che, senza far perdere loro l’autonomia del
brand del prodotto, li metta in condizioni di competere con
maggiori possibilità di successo. Il secondo obiettivo è
legato agli investimenti in ricerca e sviluppo: il mobile pesarese
ha le carte in regola per riprendersi una leadership
nazionale se riuscirà a guardare alle esigenze dei clienti del
2020. In questa direzione, è auspicabile che i prossimi provvedimenti
del Governo guardino con maggiore attenzione a
quelle industrie (anche del mobile) che “svoltano” rispetto al
vecchio standard del “prodotto discreto a basso prezzo”.
Può darci dei cenni sulle Statistiche, dati congiunturali
2010-2011 del settore mobile?
I dati emersi dall’indagine congiunturale evidenziano, per il
primo trimestre del 2011, un andamento delle attività produttive
e commerciali delle aziende del settore del mobile e
legno in diminuzione rispetto allo stesso periodo dell’anno
passato, con l’unica eccezione delle vendite all’estero.
La produzione è diminuita su base annua dell’1,8%, frutto di
un peggioramento in tutti i comparti, con unica eccezione del
comparto dei mobili in genere che in media ha registrato
ancora un +3,1%. L’andamento segnalato è più accentuato
rispetto alla tendenza manifestata a livello regionale, dove
l’attività produttiva ha sperimentato invece un segnale positivo
pari allo 0,8%. In ambito locale le variazioni sono state
più accentuate anche di quanto è avvenuto a livello nazioincluding

will put them in the condition to compete with a
greater chance of success.
The second goal is related to investments in research and
development: the furniture industry of Pesaro has what it
takes to recover national leadership if it can look forward to
customer needs in 2020.
In this direction, it is hoped that the next measures of the
Government will pay more attention to those industries
(including furniture) that are "turning points" compared to
the old standard of "fair products at low prices”.
Statistics and economic data on the 2010-2011 Furniture
Industry?
Economic survey data shows, for the first quarter of 2011, a
downward trend for production and sales operations in
companies engaged in the furniture and wood industry
compared to the same period last year, with the sole exception
of sales abroad. Production has dropped 1.8% on an
annual basis, the result of a decline in all industries, with the
sole exception of the furniture industry in general that on
average still recorded +3.1%. The reported trend is more
marked than the trend on a regional level where production
operations have instead experience a positive sign equal to
0.8%. Locally the variations were more marked, also as happened
on a national level where the production level of furniture
increased by 3.5 % and those of wood fell only 0.4%.

3,5% e quelli del legno sono diminuiti solo dello 0,4%.
I dati provvisori dell’Istat sul primo trimestre arrivano addirittura
ad evidenziare un +8,4%. La situazione generale è ancora
però di incertezza: anche in questo caso infatti il numero
di coloro che hanno avuto aumenti significativi dei propri livelli
commerciali sono pari a quelli che hanno registrato delle
diminuzioni, in particolare comunque emerge che le variazioni
positive sono state soprattutto stimolate dall’export, guidato
dal mercato delle cucine. Le dinamiche commerciali manifestate
in ambito provinciale sono in controtendenza con quelle
regionali dove si registra un -0,6% nel complesso, su cui ha
influito il +0,5% avuto sull’interno e - addirittura - il -1,3%
delle vendite all’estero. Quelli sull’interno sono in aumento
rispetto allo stesso periodo dell’anno precedente del 0,9% e
del 2,9% sull’estero. L’andamento dei costi per le materie sui
mercati interni non si è riversato sui prezzi, visto che gli stessi
sono aumentati solo dello 0,3%. La situazione piuttosto

The general situation is still one of uncertainty: also in this
case the number of those who had considerable increases
in terms of sales was the same as those who recorded
drops, in particular however it appears that the positive
changes were mainly spurred by exports, driven by the kitchen
market.
Trade dynamics within the province are in contrast with the
region recording an overall -0.6%, which was influenced by
the +0.5% on domestic sales and – in fact- by the -1.3% on
sales abroad.
Domestic costs are on the rise compared to the same
period last year by 0.9%, and 2.9% abroad.
Cost trends for materials on domestic markets did not fall
on the prices, considering that they have increased only
0.3%. The rather weak situation has affected employment
levels, with a slight downturn compared to the same period
last year. The hours of temporary lay-off used by the industry
in question in the January-May 2011 period went from
710,816 in 2010 to 541,480 in 2011 (-23,8%).

To find out more, we went to visit
Cosmob and spoke to Manager
Alessio Gnaccarini, who told us:

Centro Tecnologico Cosmob di Pesaro lo scorso settembre,
al fine di consolidare la partnership con il centro marchigiano
ed elaborare scenari di nuove iniziative per il
periodo 2012-2014. Uno degli obbiettivi dell’incontro è
stato quello di fare il punto sul progetto RST - “Rete di
Servizi Tecnologici per lo sviluppo del settore legno-arredo
in Amazzonia”, che Cosmob sta realizzando insieme
alla Regione Marche, il SEBRAE ed il BID (Banco
Interamericano di Sviluppo). Guardando al futuro si sono
esplorate le modalità d’attuazione ed implementazione
dell’iniziativa per l’Anno Italia – Brasile 2011-2012, che
vedrà un ruolo fondamentale del Presidente della
Regione Marche nel coordinare i contributi delle Regioni
Italiane nel campo della politica industriale.

in Amazzonia - Technological Services Network for
the development of the wood and furnishing sector in
Amazonia) that Cosmob is carrying out along with the
Marche Region, SEBRAE and BID (Banco Interamericano
di Sviluppo). With an eye on the future, also discussed
during the encounter were ways to set up and implement
events and projects for Italy-Brazil Year 2011-2012, during
which the President of the Marche Region will play a fundamental
role in coordinating contributions from the Italian
regional governments in the field of industrial policy.

Scavolini nasce a Pesaro

Plastici Spa e mi recai a
Pesaro con l’Architetto Luigi
Caramella, a cui avevo dato l’incarico di eseguire un progetto
per una nuova cucina per i fratelli Scavolini, con l’obbligo
di utilizzare esclusivamente laminati plastici Formica.
I signori Scavolini già da allora avevano capito l’importanza
del design nel mobile, che permette di mediare fra le
espressioni più avanzate della ricerca e creatività ed i sogni
della gente. Questo è uno dei punti focali che ha contraddistinto
il successo dell’industria pesarese.
Le collaborazioni con designer di fama internazionale, quali
Giugiaro Design, King & Miranda Design, Karim Rashid e
Michael Young, sono seguite negli anni.
La strategia Scavolini ha sempre puntato anche su investimenti
in nuovi impianti, macchinari e prodotti innovativi,
dove il design e la tecnologia si fondono per dare un risultato
armonico e funzionale. Il risultato è una produzione
estremamente ampia che conta oltre 40 modelli e 350 finiture,
in grado di soddisfare le esigenze di qualsiasi cliente
ed il suo budget di spesa. A questi si aggiungono anche le
proposte di ernestomeda, altro marchio del Gruppo. Le

Scavolini was founded in
Pesaro in 1961 by the
enterprising brothers Elvino
and Valter Scavolini, who in
just a few years turned their
small craft business that
made kitchens into one of
Italy’s leading industrial
firms. I first got to know the
company in summer 1970:
at that time I was Marketing,
Promotion and Development
Manager at Formica
Laminati Plastici Spa, and I
went to Pesaro with the
architect Luigi Caramella,
whom I had entrusted with a project for a new kitchen for
the Scavolini brothers, with the condition that only Formica
plastic laminates were to be used.
Even then the Scavolinis were well aware of the importance
of design for furniture, because it is design that makes it
possible to combine the finest leading-edge research with
creativity, with people’s dreams.
This is one of the keys to the success of Scavolini.
Over the years, the company has worked together with
designers and design firms of international renown, such as
Giugiaro Design, King & Miranda Design, Karim Rashid and
Michael Young. Scavolini’s strategy has always focused
also on investment in new plants, machinery and innovative
products, where design and technology blend to create a
beautifully smooth, functional result. This has allowed the
Pesaro company to produce an extremely wide range of
products, comprising over 40 models and 350 finishes,
with something for every taste and every pocket.
These models are joined by those by Ernestomeda, another
of the Group’s brands. The large number of certifications

demonstrate the company’s sensitivity and commitment to

cucina “più amata dagli italiani”, è la comunicazione a
mezzo stampa, televisione, cinema, radio, web ed affissione
avviata già dal 1975. Non bisogna poi dimenticare le
sponsorizzazioni sportive nel basket e nel volley che hanno
dato tanti successi e vittorie nei campionati nazionali, contribuendo
notevolmente a rafforzare l’immagine dell’azienda
sia in Italia che all’estero. Scavolini non è solo vicino allo
sport, ma, dal 1982 è anche sponsor ufficiale del Rossini
Opera Festival, manifestazione di risonanza internazionale
che si svolge ogni anno a Pesaro per celebrare il genio
musicale del grande musicista. Proprio per sostenere maggiormente
l’impegno dell’azienda nei confronti del suo territorio
e del suo patrimonio storico- culturale, è stata creata
nel 1984 la Fondazione Scavolini, che segue un autonomo
percorso culturale volto alla valorizzazione di opere e soggetti
trascurati dagli enti istituzionali. Nell’Agosto 2004,
muore prematuramente Elvino e l’impegno e la responsabilità
della gestione passa interamente a Valter un industriale
illuminato che oltre a guardare al futuro della propria attività,
ha a cuore anche gli aspetti etici e sociali, derivanti dal suo
ruolo. Nel 2011 Scavolini, tra le prime industrie del mobile
in Italia, ha inaugurato l’impianto fotovoltaico che, insieme a
quello di Ernestomeda, garantisce la quasi totale copertura
del fabbisogno energetico aziendale. Per dare un’idea della
dimensione del Gruppo Scavolini, segnaliamo i dati di bilancio
del 2010 che evidenziano ricavi per vendite di 225 milioni
di euro, dei quali 199 milioni realizzati in Italia e 26 milioni
sui mercati esteri. Il numero dei dipendenti per l’anno 2010
è stato di 650. L’insediamento industriale ha una superficie
di mq. 237.000, di cui mq. 109.000 coperti.
Per sentire dalla viva voce del protagonista le problematiche
attuali, ci siamo recati a Pesaro ad intervistare il Cav. Valter
Scavolini, che alla domanda “Come affrontare la crisi?” ci ha
risposto: “Abbiamo cercato, quando ancora le cose andavano
bene, di investire, in modo che l’azienda fosse sempre
tecnologicamente all’avanguardia.
A seguito di questi importanti investimenti, sono entrati in
funzione due magazzini automatizzati, sia per i semilavorati
che per i prodotti finiti. La crisi, ovviamente, ha toccato
anche noi, ma in modo superficiale. Nel 2010 siamo ritornati
ai fatturati del 2007, mentre negli anni precedenti avevamo
una crescita del 7-8%: tenendo conto dell’attuale
situazione, possiamo ritenerci fortunati.

Central to the strategy adopted by Scavolini, which as we
now all know is “Italy’s best-loved kitchen” is communication,
through the press, TV, cinema, radio, internet and billposters,
which began as early as 1975. Other important
aspects of communication are the basketball and volleyball
sponsorships: the numerous victories and successes in
Italian national championships have done much to enhance
the brand’s image both at home and abroad. In addition to
sport, since 1982 Scavolini has also been official sponsor of
the Rossini Opera Festival, an event of international scope
held every year in Pesaro to celebrate the genius of the
great musician. This desire on the part of the company to
provide greater support to the local area and its historical
and cultural heritage led, in 1984, to the creation of the
Scavolini Foundation, which pursues its own independent
cultural strategy aimed at shedding new light on works and
subjects often neglected by the institutions. Following the
untimely death of Elvino in August 2004, responsibility for
running the company was transferred to Valter, an enlightened
industrialist who looks beyond the future of his own
business and also takes great care of the ethical and social
issues that come with his position. In 2011 Scavolini, one
of Italy’s leading furniture firms, inaugurated the new photovoltaic
system, which, together with that of Ernestomeda, is
able to cover almost all of the company’s energy needs.
To give an idea of the size of the Scavolini Group, it is worth
taking a look at the 2010 financial statements, which show
revenue from sales totalling € 225 million, almost € 199 million
of which in Italy and € 26 million on foreign markets. In
2010 the Group employed 650 people.
The plant has a total surface of 237,000 m2, 109,000 m2
of which indoor. To hear how the head of the business sees
the current situation, we went to Pesaro to interview Cav.
Valter Scavolini. When asked how to tackle the crisis, his
reply was: “When things were still going well, we tried to
invest, so that the company remained on the cutting edge
of technology. As a result of these important investments,
two automated warehouses are now up and running, for
both semi-finished and finished products.
Of course, we’ve been affected by the crisis too, but only
superficially. In 2010 our turnover returned to 2007 levels,
while in the preceding years it had grown by 7-8%: considering
the current situation, we can count ourselves lucky.

Naturalmente, i soli investimenti non bastano ed abbiamo
intrapreso iniziative in seno all’azienda con l’intento di non
subire la crisi, ma di affrontarla. Abbiamo continuato ad
investire su progetti diversi, con per soddisfare tutte le
richieste del mercato, sempre con un occhio al budget.
Maggiore attenzione abbiamo prestato all’organizzazione di
vendita con un particolare riguardo ai clienti esclusivisti che
hanno più interesse a lavorare con una sola ditta piuttosto
che con tante. Abbiamo migliorato le attrezzature interne,
gli elettrodomestici, mentre la struttura della cucina in generale
è rimasta la stessa, unica differenza è la profondità, che
una volta era di 50-55 cm. mentre oggi è di 60 cm.
Anche nello stile del mobile il gusto è cambiato: il classico
non è più molto richiesto, tutto è moderno e il design è
diventato importantissimo, con più tecnologia negli elettrodomestici.
Se abbiamo successo all’estero, lo dobbiamo al
design italiano, che è apprezzato in tutto il mondo.
Noi dobbiamo guardare all’estero non pensando di fare la
concorrenza ai mobili del Far East o dei mercati dell’Est
Europa, ma dobbiamo puntare sui prodotti di qualità, per
affrontare il mercato globale.” Alla domanda: “Signor
Scavolini, come vede il futuro?” Ha risposto: “A breve termine
non vedo le condizioni per un cambio della situazione.
Dobbiamo convivere con questo mercato, con la ricerca di
spazi di vendita sui mercati esteri e in Italia non credo che
il potere d’acquisto si svilupperà.
Nonostante questo sono ottimista ed auspico un miglioramento
della situazione economica.”
Naturally, investment alone is not enough, and here in the
company we’ve taken action with the aim not just of coping
with the crisis, but tackling it head-on. We’ve continued to
invest in a range of different projects, aimed at satisfying all
the market’s requests, while never taking our eye off the
budget. We’ve paid greater attention to sales organisation,
focusing in particular on exclusive dealers who are more
interested in dealing with one single firm than with a number
of firms. We’ve made improvements to the equipment in
our kitchens - the household appliances - while the structure
of our kitchens has, generally speaking, remained
unchanged – the only difference is the depth, which has
gone from 50-55 cm to today’s 60 cm. Tastes have also
changed with regard to furnishing styles: classic models are
no longer very popular, everything is modern, design has
become hugely important, and household appliances are
becoming more technological. Our success abroad is
thanks to Italian design, which is popular all over the world.
When we look to foreign markets, we shouldn’t be thinking
of how we can compete with furniture from the Far East or
the Eastern European markets; we should be focusing on
product quality as a way to tackle the global market.”
When asked how he sees the future, Valter Scavolini replied:
“In the short term, I can’t see the conditions for change.
We have to learn to live with this market, trying to carve out
a space for sales on foreign markets, and I can’t see purchasing
power in Italy growing. Nevertheless, I’m optimistic,
and I hope for an upturn in the economic situation.”

Una camera da letto di stile classico prodotta
dall’industria FBL (Gruppo Della Rovere).
L’artigianato è sempre stato il padre dell’industria e, falegnamerie
più o meno grandi esistevano già dalla fine dell’800.
Un esempio è la ditta Mobili Avenanti Srl di Fratte Rosa la cui
origine risale al 1870 ed ancora oggi può raccontare “ una
lunga storia fatta di mobili in legno”. Come accennato, è negli
anni ’50 che è iniziato lo sviluppo dell’industria del mobile nella
Provincia di Pesaro (si, perché allora la provincia era solo
Pesaro ed incorporava tutta l’area di Urbino) per iniziativa degli
industriali che hanno fatto la storia del settore, e meritano una
citazione: Belligotti, Berloni, Ferri, Fulgini, Scavolini, Urbinati
(oggi Giaguarmobili). Successivamente, negli anni ’70, nascono
le industrie: Della Rovere, Biefbi (Battistelli), Fiam (specializzata
in arredamenti in cristallo), Fiamberti, Mobilificio
Fogliense, Novalinea, Polywood, etc. In quegli anni a Pesaro
è iniziata una politica di decentramento delle aziende con la
costituzione di aree industriali ed una di queste è quella di
Montelabbate, che nella mappa di pagg. 20-21 è la più grande,
e conta oggi 38 industrie sul totale di 178. La città di
Pesaro, nell’arco degli anni, ha visto un esodo delle industrie
ed oggi la sua area ne conta solo 17. La seconda area di concentrazione
industriale è quella di Talacchio di Colbordolo che
insieme al Comune specifico conta 26 industrie. Montecchio
del Comune di Sant’Angelo in Lizzola conta 17 industrie.
Un’area industriale che negli ultimi anni si è molto sviluppata è
quella di Montecalvo in Foglia dove hanno sede anche alcune
industrie di semilavorati e componenti: una di queste è la
Sitech Srl del Gruppo Saviola (www.sitech-srl.it).
Anche l’area di Gallo di Petriano, che conta 9 industrie del
mobile, ha anche industrie di semilavorati. Tra queste l’industria
Fab Srl della famiglia Sperindio (www.fabgroup.com).
Una zona industriale di più recente costituzione è quella di
Mombaroccio, dove le industrie sono 7. Qui è ubicata anche
la qualificata industria specializzata nella post-formatura di
top e nella produzione di semilavorati, la Topstar Spa
(www.topstarpostforming.com). Molte altre industrie, che
sono nate fuori delle aree industriali, sono ubicate in diversi
luoghi della Provincia di Pesaro-Urbino: vedi i punti azzurri.
Craftsmanship has always been the
forerunner of industry, and carpentry
workshops of varying sizes
already existed as far back as the
late 19 th century.
One example of these is Mobili
Avenanti Srl, located in Fratte Rosa,
a furniture firm whose origins date
back to 1870 and which is still writing
new chapters in the “long
history of wooden furniture”.
As mentioned, it was the 1950 s that
saw the start of the development of
the furniture industry in Pesaro (as
the province, which comprised the
whole of the Urbino area, was known at the time), thanks to
the enterprising spirit of a number of industrialists that made
their mark on the history of the sector; particularly worth
mentioning are the following: Belligotti, Berloni, Ferri,
Fulgini, Scavolini and Urbinati (now Giaguarmobili).
Subsequently, in the 1970 s , the following companies were
established: Della Rovere, Biefbi (Battistelli), Fiam (specialised
in crystal furnishings), Fiamberti, Mobilificio Fogliense,
Novalinea, Polywood, etc.
The policy of those years in Pesaro was to decentralise
these firms through the set-up of industrial areas, among
them the one in Montelabbate, the largest of those featured
on the map on pages 20 and 21, which now boasts 38
companies out of a total of 178.
Over the years, companies have moved away from the
town of Pesaro itself, and today there remain just 17 in the
area. The second highest concentration of companies is in
Talacchio di Colbordolo, which together with the specific
municipality has a total of 26 companies.
Montecchio, in the municipality of Sant’Angelo in Lizzola,
has 17 companies. One industrial area that has grown significantly
in recent years is that of Montecalvo in Foglia, where
a number of firms producing semi-processed materials and
components are also to be found: one of these is Sitech Srl,
belonging to the Saviola group (www.sitech-srl.it).
The area of Gallo di Petriano, where there are 9 furniture
companies, is also home to companies producing semiprocessed
materials, such as Fab Srl, belonging to the
Sperindio family (www.fabgroup.com).
An industrial area set up more recently is the one in
Mombaroccio, where 7 companies are located, including
Topstar Spa (www.topstarpostforming.com), the highly
qualified company specialising in the post-forming of top
elements and the production of semi-processed materials.

are located at different points of the province of Pesaro-
Urbino: see the blue dots.

Interview with the
Austrian Consul for Trade,
Michael Berger
L’Austria è uno Stato con alta densità
di forestazione, in cui la “cultura
del legno” è una tradizione molto
sentita e sviluppata nelle sue varie
applicazioni e, soprattutto, nelle
costruzioni residenziali. Grazie alla
grande disponibilità di legno,
l’Austria vanta una quota export
molto alta, sostenuta dalla Camera
Economica Federale Austriaca.
Per avere maggiori dati e conoscere
l’attuale situazione, abbiamo incontrato
il Console Commerciale Austriaco
in Italia, nel suo ufficio di Milano.
Al Dott. Michael Berger abbiamo
chiesto di fornirci un aggiornamento
sulla presenza dei prodotti Austriaci
in Italia. “La situazione – ha risposto il Dott. Berger – è
abbastanza favorevole: negli ultimi anni la Camera
Economica Federale, a cui sono iscritti 450.000 membri su
una popolazione di 8 milioni, può contare su 43.000 esportatori
abituali che fatturano 110 miliardi di euro ed una
quota export del 60%. La disoccupazione è molto bassa,
con una percentuale inferiore al 5% e, poiché il nostro partner
principale è la Germania, quando questo paese è in
espansione, anche noi godiamo di un momento favorevole.
In Austria abbiamo 1.400 segherie, industrie di pannelli e
aziende produttrici di travi lamellari per l’edilizia che, tutti
insieme, danno lavoro a 30.000 addetti ed in tutto il ciclo
della lavorazione del legno, vengono prodotti circa 18 milioni
di m3 di legname e manufatti. Da qualche anno la
Camera Economica Federale Austriaca ha intrapreso iniziative
con lo scopo di sviluppare l’export anche con altri Stati
ed oggi l’Italia è il nostro secondo partner commerciale con
un quota export totale del 9%. Quest’anno abbiamo avuto
un incremento del fatturato del 20% nei primi 5 mesi.
La maggior parte dei nostri scambi è con l’Italia del nord,
solo il 10% con il centro e sud Italia, per questo abbiamo
cominciato a proporre delle manifestazioni con le Camere di
Commercio delle città più importanti del Sud d’Italia, organizzando
incontri con gli operatori di Roma, Palermo e
Napoli. In futuro è in programma un incontro anche a Bari .
Il volume d’affari nei settore legno, delle esportazioni Austriache
verso l’Italia è di oltre 1 miliardo di euro e, naturalmente, il
legno, i mobili ed i manufatti in legno, sono al primo posto.
Austria is a country with a high density
of forests, in which the “culture
of wood” is a tradition dear to the
heart of the people, who use the
material in a variety of applications,
especially for building homes.
Thanks to the abundance of trees,
Austria is able to export a great deal
of wood, supported in its endeavours
by the Austrian Federal
Chamber of Commerce.
To find out more and to have a picture
of the current situation, we
spoke to the Austrian Consul for
Trade in his Milan office.
We asked Dr. Michael Berger for an
update on the presence of Austrian
products in Italy. “The situation – Dr. Berger told us – is fairly
positive: in recent years, the Federal Chamber of
Commerce, with 450,000 members out of a population of 8
million, has been able to count on 43,000 regular exporters,
with a turnover of € 110 billion and an export share of 60%.
Unemployment is very low, less than 5%, and since our
main partner is Germany, a positive situation there has positive
knock-on effects for us too.
In Austria we have 1,400 sawmills, companies that produce
panels and firms that make laminated beams for the construction
industry. Altogether, these businesses employ
30,000 people, and the entire wood processing cycle produces
around 18 million m3 of wood and wood products.
For a few years now, the Austrian Federal Chamber of
Commerce has been working on projects aimed at developing
exports towards other countries, and Italy is currently
our second most important trading partner, with a total
export share of 9%. This year we have registered a 20% rise
in turnover in the first five months.
Most of our trade is carried out with northern Italy, with the
centre and south accounting for just 10%.
This is why we have started contacting the Chambers of
Commerce in the most important cities in the south of Italy,
to organise encounters with operators in Rome, Palermo
and Naples. Also in the pipeline is a meeting in Bari.
The turnover of Austrian exports in the wood sector to Italy
stands at over € 1 billion, with wood, furniture and wooden
objects naturally heading the list.

Per dare una idea del volume degli affari, posso citare le
statistiche Import-Export del legno tra l’Austria e l’Italia nel
2010, da cui risulta che l’Austria importa dall’Italia
€ 59.525.218 ed esporta in Italia € 1.218.675.268.
Entrando nel dettaglio posso precisare che la quota maggiore
è detenuta dai segati, con 606.815.863 euro (cioè circa il
50%) di export dall’Austria verso l’Italia, contro un import di
15.371.217. Naturalmente un aspetto del nostro lavoro è
anche quello di promuovere gli investimenti stranieri in
Austria e per questo il nostro Stato dispone di un’Agenzia
Federale a Vienna che si chiama ABA (Austrian Business
Agency). Per questo tipo di attività, l’Austria, offre vantaggi
nella ricerca e negli investimenti. Le aziende interessate possono
prendere contatto diretto, attraverso il sito www. investinaustria.at.
Il nostro augurio per l’Italia è che, oltre a consolidare
rapporti di amicizia e buon vicinato, sia possibile sviluppare
sempre più affari di reciproco interesse.”
To give an idea of the turnover, I can quote the wood sector
Import-Export statistics that regarded Austria and Italy in
2010, when Austrian imports from Italy totalled
€ 59,525,218 and exports to Italy stood at € 1,218,675,268.
A closer look at these figures shows that sawn wood
accounts for the lion’s share, with € 606,815,863 (i.e.
around 50%) in exports from Austria to Italy, compared to
imports of € 15,371,217. Of course, one aspect of our work
is to encourage foreign investments in Austria, and this is
why we have a Federal agency in Vienna, the Austrian
Business Agency (ABA). For this type of activity, Austria
offers advantages in terms of both research and investment.

Conosco la ditta Egger di
St. Johann in Tirolo, Austria
da 29 anni, cioè da quando
fondai la Datalignum.
In tutti questi anni ho visitato
sue fabbriche ubicate in vari
Stati e posso testimoniare il
notevole sviluppo di questo
Gruppo industriale, che
oggi conta 17 stabilimenti
nel mondo, 22 uffici commerciali,
6.500 dipendenti
ed una produzione annua di
6,4 milioni mc di pannelli,
con un turnover di 1,8
miliardi di Euro (anno 2010).
Fritz Egger, padre degli
attuali titolari, fondò una
piccola fabbrica per la produzione
di segati e pannelli truciolari nel 1961 e nell’arco di
qualche decennio, con investimenti ed espansioni sui mercati
esteri, dette notevole impulso allo sviluppo.
Purtroppo, nel 1982 Fritz Egger morì in un incidente automobilistico.
Da quel momento è iniziata la gestione dei fratelli
Egger: Fritz Jr., Michael e Edmund. Anche quest’ultimo,
nel 1996 morì in un incidente aereo a 39 anni.
Questo tragico destino ed il profondo dolore procurato da
così grandi perdite, non ha tolto ai due fratelli la tenacia, la
determinazione di far crescere l’azienda di famiglia ed
hanno tenacemente attuato una rivalsa contro le fatalità
così drammatiche. Infatti con la gestione di Fritz e Michael
Egger l’espansione è continuata ed è andata oltre ogni
ragionevole aspettativa, avendo saputo e voluto “guardare
lontano”: I numeri sopra citati lo dimostrano e non hanno
bisogno di commento. In questo breve testo non voglio parlare
di tecnologie, di impianti per la produzione, di innovazioni,
ma voglio sottolineare la grande importanza che la
famiglia Egger attribuisce ai rapporti umani.
Sì, perché nonostante la dimensione industriale assunta, il
Gruppo Egger ha ancora una impostazione familiare che
tiene in grande considerazione questi importanti valori e ha
un comportamento amichevole con tutti, siano questi
dipendenti, fornitori o clienti.
Vivo in questo settore da 46 anni e per la mia professione
ho visitato migliaia di fabbriche, conosciuto migliaia di per-

Datalignum 29 years ago.
Over these last three decades
I have visited factories
of theirs in various countries,
and I can testify to the
impressive growth of this
industrial group, which
today boasts 17 factories
worldwide, in addition to 22
commercial offices, 6,500
employees, an annual production
of 6.4 million m3 of
panels and a yearly turnover
of € 1.8 billion (2010).
In 1961, Fritz Egger, the
father of the firm’s current
owners, founded a small factory to produce timber and
chipboard. In the space of just a few decades, thanks to the
investments made and expansion into foreign markets, the
firm grew considerably. Sadly, Fritz Egger was killed in a car
accident in 1982. The management of the company was
then taken over by his sons Fritz Jr., Michael and Edmund.
Edmund also met an untimely death, losing his life at just 39
in an air crash. This tragic fate and the depth of the sorrow
caused by the loss of their father and brother took nothing
away from the tenacity of the two surviving brothers, whose
determination to make the family business grow helped
them to cope with such a cruel destiny.
With Fritz and Michael Egger at the helm, the company
continued to expand, surpassing all expectations, thanks to
their business acumen and forward-looking vision.
This success is demonstrated by the figures above, which
need no further comment. In this brief piece it is not my
intention to speak of technologies, manufacturing systems
and innovation; what I would like to focus on is just how
important human relationships are to the Egger family. In
spite of the extent to which the Egger Group has grown, it
is still run with a family business approach that holds these
important values in high regard and behaves in the same
friendly manner towards everyone, be they employees,
suppliers or customers. I have spent 46 years in this sector,
and in the course of my professional career I have visited

sone, e devo dire che il Gruppo Egger, grazie alla sua impostazione,
riesce a coinvolgere anche emotivamente i suoi
dipendenti ai vari livelli e tutti amano l’ azienda per cui lavorano.
Questo risultato viene raggiunto non solo con un trattamento
normativo ed economico adeguato, ma anche
grazie alla componente umana, che è fondamentale nel
rapporto professionale.
Tra i due fratelli, Fritz e Michael, le competenze sono sempre
state ben definite, non ci sono sovrapposizioni e c’è
sempre stata unità d’intenti ed armonia di gestione.
Per il mio lavoro ho avuto maggiori contatti con Michael,
che ho sempre ammirato non solo per le sue grandi qualità
imprenditoriali, ma anche perché è aperto ai rapporti umani,
cordiale, simpatico e generoso.

must say that the approach adopted by the Egger Group is
able to emotionally engage its employees at all levels, and
that each one of them loves the firm they work for. This is
achieved not only thanks to the appropriate standards and
salaries, but also thanks to the human factor, which is what
really makes the difference in a business relationship.
The skills and responsibilities of each of the two brothers,
Fritz and Michael, have been carefully defined. There is
never any overlap and their intentions and management
approach are in perfect harmony. In my working role I have
had more to do with Michael, whom I have always admired
not only for his superb business skills, but also because of
his open, friendly, generous attitude.

Il 1 Luglio scorso, ho avuto il piacere di essere stato invitato
alla celebrazione ufficiale dei 50 anni della ditta Egger che è
stata appropriatamente definita “Festival dei partners, un
Festival per i sensi”. Per ospitare i 1.050 ospiti della serata,
Egger ha fatto installare sul piazzale della fabbrica una grande
tenda che conteneva 154 tavoli elegantemente imbanditi
ed è stato servito un pranzo squisito, cucinato da chef di
prima classe. Per l’occasione è stata invitata a suonare la K
& K Philarmonic Orchestra, composta da 110 persone tra
orchestrali e coristi, diretta dal Maestro Matthias Georg
Kendlinger, che ha eseguito brani classici di compositori
universalmente conosciuti.
Su grandi schermi, collocati all’interno del padiglione, venivano
proiettati dei film sulla storia delle fabbriche Egger, ubicate
nei diversi Stati del mondo e le immagini erano accompagnate
da musiche di folklore e di inni nazionali di quei
paesi. Nel discorso ufficiale, Michael Egger ha parlato della
storia del Gruppo, degli sviluppi e della recente acquisizione
dell’industria Gagarin in Russia, ma il momento di più intensa
emozione è stato quando ha parlato della sua famiglia,
del padre Fritz e dello scomparso fratello Edmund, esprimendo
il suo rammarico perché non è stato loro possibile
vedere lo sviluppo raggiunto dall’azienda.
A quel punto la commozione ha pervaso Michael e in sala
tutti i presenti hanno avvertito le vibrazioni del suo stato d’animo
e la sua profonda emozione. L’orchestra ha concluso
lo spettacolo ufficiale con la marcia di Radetzky, ma per
l’entusiasmo degli ospiti la festa è continuata fino a notte
fonda. In tutti resterà nel cuore l’armonia di un Concerto di
alta classe, degno del Teatro alla Scala di Milano, e nella
mente il ricordo di una bellissima serata.
Alla famiglia Egger ed al Gruppo, i miei Auguri per ulteriori
futuri successi, prosperità e felicità!
On July 1st I had the pleasure of being invited to the official
celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Egger, appropriately
defined “A Festival of partners, a Festival for the senses”.
For the 1,050 guests attending the function, Egger had a
large marquee set up outside the factory, with 154 elegantly
laid tables on which a delicious meal was served, cooked
by first-class chefs.
For the occasion, an invitation was extended to the K & K
Philharmonic Orchestra, composed of 110 members
between chorists and musicians and conducted by
Maestro Matthias Georg Kendlinger, who performed classical
pieces by the world’s finest composers.
The large screen inside the pavilion showed footage illustrating
the history of the Egger factories in the various countries
throughout the world, accompanied by the folk music
and national anthems of the countries concerned.
During his official speech, Michael Egger spoke of the
history of the Group and the recent acquisition of Gagarin
in Russia.
The most touching moment, however, was when he spoke
of his family and of his sadly missed father Fritz and brother
Edmund, and how much he wishes they could have witnessed
the successful growth of the business.
This was clearly a very emotional moment for Michael, and
the depth of his feelings was evident to everyone in attendance.
The orchestra brought the official function to a close with
the Radetzky March, but the celebrations continued well on
into the night, much to the enthusiasm of the guests.
The harmony of a first-class concert worthy of Milan's La
Scala Theatre, will remain in the hearts and minds of all as
the memory of a wonderful evening.
I sincerely wish the Egger family and their Group continuing
success, prosperity and happiness!

A Pordenone, in occasione della fiera
Sicam 2011, verranno presentate tendenze
attuali e soluzioni dal design
autentico. Egger, produttore di materiali
in legno, presenta i decori di quest’anno
con effetti naturali e vivaci all’insegna
del motto “Authentic – Design goes
natural”. I nuovi decori 2011 uniscono
design e natura ed esprimono le tendenze
più attuali nel campo dell’arredamento.
Durante la fiera internazionale
Sicam di Pordenone, dal 19 al 22 ottobre
2011, verranno presentati i fiori
all’occhiello della nuova collezione. Le
novità di quest’anno sono rappresentate
dal motto “Authentic – Design goes
natural”. I decori legno vivaci e naturali
si contraddistinguono per un effetto di
autenticità, come se fossero stati tratti
direttamente dalla natura. Elementi
quali nodi, assi, fiori intagliati o effetti
artigianali come il segato grezzo sono di
nuovo richiesti ed entrano consapevolmente
in contrasto con il design pulito
delle linee definite. Ne sono un esempio
le realizzazioni in rovere Veneto e
Bardolino oppure, tra le conifere, Larice
Montana e Larice Schönau. Per quanto
riguarda i nuovi decori in tinta unita, l’interesse
si concentra principalmente sui
colori neutri come il bianco, il marrone,
il grigio e l’antracite in diverse sfumature
che conferiscono all’arredamento un
aspetto naturale e luminoso. Nel caso
del bianco, il trend si allontana dal bianco
puro per dirigersi verso tonalità cromatiche
maggiormente coprenti e tendenti
al bianco panna. Per accentuare
un elemento o un particolare, i nuovi
colori gessati naturali Malaga, Velvet,
Brick e Denim sono l’ideale. Sono contraddistinti,
infatti, da una notevole leggerezza
e si possono perciò combinare
facilmente con diversi tipi di legno grazie
al loro effetto opacizzante.
Dal 19 al 22 ottobre 2011 Egger sarà
presente alla fiera internazionale Sicam
2011 di Pordenone per presentare le
tendenze più attuali e i nuovi decori. In
quell’occasione sarà possibile scoprire
dal vivo il connubio tra design e natura,
osservare da vicino le più recenti innovazioni
nel campo dei prodotti e provare
le soluzioni digitali che guardano al
futuro. Saremo lieti di accogliere tutti

manufacturer Egger is presenting this
year’s decor innovations with a lively
and natural appearance under the

The 2011 decor innovations bring
together design and nature, reflecting
current trends in the world of interior
design. From 19th to 22nd October
2011, the highlights of the new collection
will be presented at the international
Sicam trade fair in Pordenone.
This year’s new developments are
being presented under the motto
“Authentic – Design goes natural”.
Lively and natural woodgrain decors in
particular feature an authentic look –
the decor image appears as though it
were taken from nature.
Elements like knots, planks and sectioned
florets, or a handcrafted appearance
such as the rough-cut look, are
in demand and consciously create a
contrast to linear and smooth designs.
Examples include the Veneto and
Bardolino Oak versions and Montana
Larch as well as Schönau Larch
among the coniferous types of wood.
Among the new uni decors, the focus
is on neutral colours such as white,
brown, grey and anthracite in various
hues. They bring both naturalness and
clarity to furniture design.
With white, the trend is shifting away
form pure white to opaque or creamy
colour variations. The new natural
chalk colours Malaga, Velvet, Brick
and Denim can be used as accents.
They are defined by a certain lightness
and are ideal in combination with
wood thanks to their matt effect.
Egger is presenting the current trends
and decor innovations at the international
SICAM 2011 trade fair in Pordenone
from 19 th to 22 nd October 2011.

up close and personally.

I processi di nobilitazione dei profili piani per l’industria del
mobile da tempo riscuotono molto successo come alternativa
ai pannelli impiallacciati e al legno massiccio.
Come materiali da nobilitazione si usano generalmente:
Laminati ad alta pressione (HPL), laminati a bassa pressione
(CPL), carte monostrato (Finish foil) e materiali plastici (PVC).
La tendenza del mercato, negli ultimi anni, è sempre più
orientata ad abbandonare l’uso degli adesivi tradizionali a
base PVAc e a base solvente, a favore dei termofondenti
tradizionali o Poliuretanici reattivi, allo scopo di aumentare la
qualità del manufatto e la produttività.
L’uso di questi “nuovi” adesivi non si adatta con i sistemi di
incollaggio tradizionali presenti sul mercato, proprio per le
loro particolari caratteristiche. Il maggior costo di tali adesivi
impone inoltre al fabbricante dei semilavorati un accurato
controllo della grammatura applicata.
La loro gestione richiede anche una costante attenzione per
la sicurezza dell’ambiente del lavoro, evitando il rilascio di
fumi dannosi per la salute e garantendo il mantenimento
della costanza delle prestazioni degli adesivi.
Robatech ha studiato e realizzato soluzioni atte a rispondere
alle nuove esigenze dei produttori di pannelli nobilitati e ai
nuovi tipi di adesivi utilizzati.
The process of finishing of
flat profiles for the furniture
industry has been for a long
time very successful as an
alternative to the veneer
panels and hardwood. As
finishing materials are generally
used: High Pressure
Laminates (HPL), Low-pressure
laminates (CPL), single-ply
paper (finish foil) and
plastic materials (PVC). The
market trend in recent years
is increasingly oriented to
abandon the use of traditional
PVAc adhesives and solvent
based, in favor of the
traditional hotmelt or reactive
polyurethane, in order to
increase the quality and
productivity of the manufactured.
The use of these
"new" adhesives does not fit with the traditional gluing
systems on the market, due to their special characteristics.
The higher cost of these glues requires the manufacturer of
semi-finished an accurate control of weight of the glue.
Their employment requires constant attention to the safety
prescriptions of the work environment, preventing the release
of fumes harmful to health and ensuring the maintenance
of the quality of adhesives. Robatech has designed and
implemented solutions to meet the new needs of manufacturers
of veneered panels and new types of adhesives.
Precise and uniform coating
The “contact” coating heads of the series FKV fully respond
to new demands. Their peculiarities allow to solve new problems
and get more benefits. Robatech FKV heads, thanks
to their technology, let you work not only with high viscosity
adhesives, but also with traditional adhesives, filled or not.
FKV strong advantage is the quality of the film applied and
the accurate control of weight of the applied quantity, thereby
ensuring high performance with the minor amount of
adhesive. The coating head FKV can be installed on new
machines as on already existing systems as far as for
upgrading / retrofitting, due to its reduced size and weight.

La tecnologia Dascanova Technology (presentata alla Fiera
Ligna 2011 per la prima volta) permette di cambiare la densità
di pannelli truciolari o pannelli di fibra mediante un unico processo,
modificando e ridistribuendo trucioli selezionati creando
così una speciale struttura interna (triangolare o ondulata).
Il costo della materia prima, che incide fino al 30% nella produzione
di pannelli truciolari e pannelli di fibra, potrebbe essere
ridotto mediante l’utilizzo di questa tecnologia innovativa,
garantendo al contempo le stesse (se non migliori) proprietà
meccaniche. Inoltre, la Dascanova Technology può essere
impiegata anche per la produzione di altri materiali (ad esempio,
per i pannelli di costruzione o di isolamento).
In questo articolo, presenteremo un nuovo metodo riguardante
la Dascanova Technology. Tale metodo consente di
produrre un nuovo materiale ibrido a base di legno (il cosiddetto
“Pannello Ibrido Dascanova”), basato su due materie
prime differenti (legno e schiuma poliuretanica).
Il primo Pannello Ibrido Dascanova con struttura 2D per scopi
isolanti è stato prodotto già nel 2010 mediante l'utilizzo di un
metodo semplificato a due fasi. Le aree nel pannello a base
di legno rimaste vuote sono riempite di schiuma poliuretanica.
Utilizzando una combinazione di materiali, il pannello ibrido ad
anima piena di nuova concezione potrebbe essere significativamente
più leggero (anche rispetto ai pannelli Dascanova
prodotti da materiali in legno) e con proprietà meccaniche
equivalenti. Il “Pannello Ibrido Dascanova” utilizza un materiale
in legno, come trucioli o fibre, al fine di creare gli strati di
superficie, e una struttura portante con riempimento 3D.
La schiuma poliuretanica riempie le aree rimaste vuote all'interno
del pannello e riduce in modo significativo la densità
media del prodotto finale. La produzione di tale pannello ibrido
(in attesa di brevetto) si basa sulla modifica del truciolo o
del materiale in fibra e sull'applicazione
della schiuma ad espansione
prima del processo di pressatura.
Il principio fondamentale è quello di
utilizzare una quantità esatta di
schiuma poliuretanica (o altro tipo di
schiuma ad espansione) nella posizione
corretta all’interno del materasso.
Pertanto Dascanova sta sviluppando
un nuovo metodo con un
dispositivo ingegnoso che permetta
di produrre un pannello in un
solo ciclo di pressatura.
The Dascanova Technology (presented on the Ligna 2011
Exhibition for the first time) allows changing the density inside
of particleboard or fibreboard due to the unique process,
when selected particles are modified and redistributed and
the special internal structure (triangular or wave) is created.
The raw material costs up to 30% in the production of fibreboards
or particleboards could be reduced by using this
innovative technology, while the same (or even better)
mechanical properties are guaranteed. Moreover, the
Dascanova Technology can also be used for production of
other materials (e.g. construction or insulation boards).
In this article, a new method relating to the Dascanova
Technology is described. The method enables to produce a
new hybrid wood-based material (so-called “Dascanova
Hybrid Board”), which is based on two different raw materials
(wood and polyurethane foam). The first Dascanova Hybrid
Board with 2D structure for insulation purposes was produced
already in 2010 by using a simplified two-step method.
The non-loaded areas in wood-based panel are filled with
polyurethane foam. Using this combination of materials, a
newly-developed full-core hybrid board could be significantly
lighter (even in comparison with the Dascanova boards produced
from wooden materials) with equivalent mechanical
properties. “Dascanova Hybrid Board” uses wooden material
(such as particles or fibres) to build up the surface layers
and the 3D load bearing structure. The polyurethane foam
fills the rest areas in the board and significantly reduces the
average density of the end product. The production of such
a hybrid board (patents pending) is based on modification of
the particle or fibre material and application of the expanding
foam before the press process. The main principle is to use
an exact amount of polyurethane foam (or other kind of
expanding foam) in the correct position in the mat.
Therefore, the Dascanova Company is in the process of
developing a new method as well as ingenious device,
which allows producing a board in only one press cycle.

Il faro si è accesso sui visitatori della
fabbrica della Homag GmbH di
Schopfloch / Germania dal 27 al 30
Settembre scorsi, dove hanno
potuto vedere la completa gamma
di macchine e sistemi per la lavorazione
del legno.
Il 19° incontro Homag ha offerto ai
visitatori la possibilità di vedere le
macchine e linee complete di produzione,
installate su 10.000 mq.
Un totale di 7 macchine LaserTec in
funzione, diversi sistemi ad alta-tecnologia
per lavorazioni ad una e/o
due spalle, macchine per serramenti,
metodi di laminazione e
post-formatura ed una vasta
gamma di macchine anche per lavorazioni personalizzate.
Le tendenze come il “reacTec” e la tecnologia “ecoPlus”
potevano essere toccate con mano dagli acquirenti.
L’incontro era centrato intorno al nuovo centro Homag
“Teknikum” per i clienti, in un’altra area di 2.000 mq. dove
le macchine esposte e pronte per le dimostrazioni potevano
lavorare elementi strutturali di legno.
I visitatori hanno potuto rendersi conto dell’attuale “stato
dell’arte” nelle macchine per la lavorazione del legno ed
avere specifici suggerimenti tecnici.
L’incontro Homag (Homag Treff) ha avuto luogo simultaneamente
a Holzbronn nella sede della Holzma (Holzma Treff)
dove sono state mostrate e verificate soluzioni per la sezionatura
di pannelli e manufatti. Nei prossimi giorni pubblicheremo
dei report sulle linee installate alla Homag.
Riportiamo alcune informazioni sulle novità più importanti:
Estrema flessibilità nella produzione dei mobili
Gli impianti in esposizione per i visitatori all’Homag Treff hanno
incluso un vero e proprio campione della lavorazione in lotti di
un unico pezzo nel campo della produzione industriale ultraflessibile.
Preparato per la futura produzione di elevati volumi
di mobili per ufficio di alta qualità della società Sedus
Systems GmbH, questo impianto è altrettanto idoneo per la
lavorazione di parti di piccolo formato con un alto grado di

The spotlight was on individuality when visitors flocked to
Homag Holzbearbeitungssysteme GmbH in Schopfloch
from September 27 - 30, 2011 to appraise the company’s
complete portfolio from the woodworking shop through to
industry. The 19th Homag Treff offered visitors the opportunity
to experience an extraordinary line-up of achievements
in an exhibition area of over 10,000 sq.m. A total of seven
LaserTec machines in operation, several high-tech systems
with single and double-sided workpiece processing from
series through to batch size 1 production, double-end tenoners,
methods for laminating and postforming and a wide
range of stand-alone machines for individual production
were available to experience at close quarters. Trends such
as reacTec or resource-efficient ecoPlus technologies were
also on hand for inspection by potential buyers. The Treff
was centred around the new Homag “Technikum” for
customers with an exhibition area of over 2,000 sq.m.
Machines on show here included models prepared and permanently
ready to process solid timber for the production of
complete structural elements. Visitors to this annual gettogether
for members of the woodworking industry had the
chance to experience live production, appraise the standard
of quality and user convenience at first hand and also
glean individual advice from the experts. The Holzma Treff
took place simultaneously in Holzbronn. Here, the focus
was on the Practive range, featuring tried and tested solutions
for the woodworking shop sector. We report some
information about the most important innovations:

di lavoro, il processo LaserTec ha destato sicuramente una
sorta di agitazione. Da quel momento sono stati venduti
numerosi centri di lavoro LaserTec e il sistema è operativo
ad un livello ottimale di affidabilità del processo.
Uno di questi centri di lavoro completo è ora stato installato
nel nuovo stabilimento tedesco del produttore Palmberg,
per la produzione tedesca di mobili per ufficio. I visitatori
dell’Homag Treff non solo hanno potuto sperimentare il
metodo LaserTec in prima persona e in esclusiva assoluta,
ma sono stati anche testimoni di un altro intrigante evento
degno di nota: l’estensione della fora-fresatrice a portale
mobile con l’inclusione del metodo “classico” di incollaggio.

Prepared for the

volumes of high-grade office

Sedus Systems GmbH, this
plant is just as capable of
also processing small-format
parts to a high degree
of angular accuracy. The nerve centre of the batch size one
plant is a KFL 624 sizing and edging line. Two laserTec units
for production of an optical zero joint and two FK31
powerTrim profile trimming units guarantee an extraordinary
level of processing quality, particularly at the work-piece
corners. An edge thickness compensation function during
processing guarantees optimum quality by achieving a constant
radius progression along the upper and lower side of
the work-piece irrespective of edge thickness tolerances.

Unveiled at this year’s Ligna in operation on a processing centre,
the the laserTec process certainly caused something of a
stir. Several processing centres with laserTec have since been

Visitors to the Homag Treff could not only have another chance
to experience the laserTec method at first hand, but also
to witness another intriguing highlight: Extension of the
moving gantry machine to include the “classical” gluing
method. The Homag BMG 512 took centre stage complete
with powerEdge gluing unit, providing the optimum symbiosis
of high productivity with operating simplicity. The edge magazine
and gluing unit are mounted at the front on the operator’s
side, making edge changeover and monitoring both efficient
and ergonomic. Independent Y axes ensure high outputs.
While the trimming spindle is operating, for instance, the
gluing unit is already at work inserting the edge.
Woodworking shops keen to invest in laserTec
The optical zero joint is attracting a lot of interest from small
and medium woodworking operations, particularly in through-feed.
A laserTec which has already been sold to Tischlerei
Posch, a joinery belonging to the Weiland Group, was on
show at the exhibition mounted
on the Ambition 2272.

The new woodCAD|CAM product family is designed for

from the parametric design to the individual item of furniture,
from the complex room plan to CNC data generation,
this software provides speed and security throughout the
order processing and production process. Operation is
both simple and intuitive. Planning and design outputs are
displayed in photorealistic quality, and the system also permits
the visualization of individual furnishing ideas. At the
same time, woodCAD|CAM generates drawings in two and
three-dimensional views. Using data derived directly from
the 3D design, the system automatically generates bills of
material, dimensioned component drawings, cutting lists,
barcodes, labels and CNC programs. The parameters are

Quest’anno si svolge la Celebrazione del
100° Anniversario della Fabbrica Fagus
che è stata dichiarata dall’UNESCO
“Patrimonio dell’Umanità”.
Costruita nel 1911, la fabbrica è un
importante pezzo della storia dell’architettura
moderna.
L’Architetto Tedesco Walter Gropius
ha creato un classico dell’architettura,
a quei tempi rivoluzionario, facciate
semplici non adornate e gli interni
inondati di luce dove la caratteristica di
questa costruzione è la struttura di
acciaio e vetro. Questo sito è uno dei
35 in Germania che sono stati riconosciuti
e premiati con questo onore.
Originariamente la fabbrica produceva
forme per calzature in legno di faggio.
Il fondatore della Fagus, Carl Benscheidt,
che commissionò la costruzione è stato
un imprenditore con lungimiranza ed un
uomo con una missione sociale.
La sua visione di un ambiente piacevole
che incoraggerebbe l’alto livello di
precisione richiesto per la produzione
di forme per scarpe.
Questa positiva atmosfera è oggi
apprezzata dai dipendenti della Weinig
nel loro lavoro, tanto quanto i loro predecessori.

This year in Alfeld/Hannover, the Fagus
Factory celebrate its 100 th Anniversary
and the classification being of UNE-
SCO world cultural heritage value.
Built in 1911, the factory is an important
piece of architecture history.
The German Architect Walter Gropius
created a classic of industrial architecture.
At that time revolutionary, unadorned
façades and interiors flooded with
light were the hallmarks of this construction
made of a steel skeleton and
glass. The Unesco has now declared
the Fagus plant a World Heritage Site.
This places it in a group of only 35
Germany sites which have been awarded
this honour to date. Originally the
Fagus plant produced shoe lasts
which gave rise to the name which
means beech in Latin. The founder of
the company, Carl Benscheidt, who
commissioned the building was an
entrepreneur with vision and a man
with a social mission. In his view, a
pleasant environment would encourage
the high level of precision required
to manufacture shoe lasts. This positive
atmosphere is appreciated by
Weinig employees in their work today
just as much as their predecessors.
Benscheidt commissioned a young
architect, Walter Gropius, who was
relatively unknown at that time, with
the work who then created his first
great masterpiece. 100 years after the
foundation stone was laid the Fagus
plant still seems modern. And successful,
high-precision products are still
designed and made there.
Undoubtedly an acknowledgement of
this epochal building which was declared
a listed building in 1946 and now is
a World Heritage Site.

In occasione della fiera Ligna 2011, Kleiberit ha dimostrato
che la finitura di superficie è entrata in una nuova era. I
clienti hanno potuto osservare, con dimostrazioni dal vivo,
come con l'innovativo Sistema HotCoating sia possibile
ottenere una finitura di elevata lucentezza su superfici di
mobili così come su livelli di durezza senza eguali, tra cui i
pavimenti in parquet. Il Sistema HotCoating offre inoltre

again was demonstrating, how the company uses its long
standing innovative competence in the field of reactive PUR
adhesives.
High Gloss with Barberan’s HotCoating System.
One of the present trends in the furniture industry of
these recent years is the use of high gloss materials, mainly
in the production of kitchen-doors for furniture, but also
other kinds of furniture and components. Barberan’s booth
included a large display of kitchen-doors produced by
application and finishing machinery, specially adapted for its
use with such materials.
One of the processes that has aroused more interest was
the high gloss finishing on melamine boards.
This completely new process, patent pending by Barberan,
uses the product HotCoating from the german adhesive
manufacturer Kleiberit, which allows to apply this product
directly on the melamine surface without the need to apply
primer first. The HotCoating presents exceptional adhesion
properties, providing an excellent strength at the same time.
The process is interesting, not only for melamine surfaces
on MDF boards, but also melamine laminated particleboard
panels. For this kind of finishing, Barberan has developed a

Uno dei processi che ha suscitato maggiore interesse è
stato la finitura High Gloss (ossia, una finitura ad alta brillantezza)
su pannelli melaminici. Questo processo completamente
nuovo, brevettato da Barberan, utilizza il prodotto
HotCoating del produttore tedesco di adesivi Kleiberit e
permette di applicare il prodotto direttamente sulla superficie
senza la necessità di applicare prima la mano di fondo.
L'HotCoating presenta caratteristiche di adesione eccezionali,
fornendo al contempo un’ottima resistenza. Il processo
è interessante, non solo per le superfici diverse su pannelli
MDF, ma anche su pannelli truciolari nobilitati melaminici.
Per questo tipo di finitura, Barberan ha sviluppato una specifica
spalmatrice a rullo che consente di ottenere, con una
sola applicazione, la qualità di finitura che è finora possibile
ottenere solo con l’utilizzo di pistole a spruzzo o macchine
per verniciatura a cortina. Il sistema di applicazione a rullo
ha dimensioni ridotte ed offre un risparmio del prodotto di
rivestimento di oltre il 50%, consentendo l’utilizzo di lacche
con contenuto solido fino al 100% e implicando un’applicazione
molto più efficiente e priva di solventi.
Sono disponibili diverse configurazioni di linea, ma sempre
secondo le esigenze di produzione. A partire dall'applicazione
della mano di finitura UV direttamente sull’HotCoating
fino alla combinazione di HotCoating, base UV, finitura e
levigatura per una qualità di finitura spettacolare.
L'efficacia di questo processo è stata debitamente testata
su diversi campi di applicazione delle industrie del mobile e
dell’arredamento in cui è stato coinvolto un pannello truciolare
con rivestimento melaminico o un pannello MDF.
Questo processo risolve i problemi tipici di questo tipo di
trattamento, con una linea semplice e compatta che migliora
le proprietà, la resistenza e la durata del prodotto, arrivando
a risultati migliori di querri ottenuti con i sistemi UV
convenzionali.

The roller application system is smaller, saves more than
50% coating product, as far 100% solid content lacquers
are used, and involves a much more efficient and solventfree
application. Different line configurations are possible
but always depending on production requirements.
Starting from the application of UV top coat directly on the
HotCoating up to the combination of HotCoating, UV base
and top coat and sanding for a spectacular finish quality.
The effectiveness of this process was duly tested on different
application fields of the furniture and decoration industries
where a melamine coated particleboard or MDF
board was involved.
This process solves the typical difficulties of this type of
treatment, with a simple and compact line that improves the
product properties, resistance and durability, above those
results obtained with conventional UV systems.

intention is to let the digital printing be useful for the actual
industrial processes: the samples produced with this technique
are going to be industrialized thanks to the 25 rotative
printing machines available in all the Interprint locations all

Il gruppo Fantoni lancia al Made il nuovo catalogo Acoustic
Panelling, un volume altamente tecnico che raccoglie la
gamma completa dei sistemi fonoassorbenti dettagliandone
caratteristiche tecniche e prestazioni acustiche; il nuovo
catalogo rappresenta una guida alla progettazione acustica
e offre suggerimenti progettuali fortemente esaustivi attraverso

ISB - The warmth of wood, the advantages of technology
At the Made Expo, the Fantoni boards division is launching
ISB board in the market: it is a CE certified insulating panel
aimed at the building sector.
The board is moisture resistant and flame retardant and is
made using the finest, carefully selected natural materials
which provide extremely high level physical and mechanical
characteristics.
The board is in class E1 and is used in the building sector
as an insulating and building component, also in combination
with other materials. When being worked, the board is
equivalent in quality to natural wood panelling, and can be
lacquered or stuck directly, without further processing.
Made exclusively of pure, untreated wood, ISB is a new
material for ever higher quality building work.

Questo premio segue l’IWF Chal -
lengers Award vinto lo scorso anno
ed è il secondo premio, tra i riconoscimenti
internazionali più prestigiosi,
che viene assegnato a questo
nuovo metodo di lavorazione.
Quando si sente il nome Las Vegas
vengono subito in mente black

ma Las Vegas offre molto di più.
La Fiera AWFS (fiera internazionale
dell’Associazione dei Lavoratori del
legno e fornitori di mobili) attira nella

Oltre 600 espositori hanno presentato i propri prodotti a

La procedura di taglio RipTec
Il legno cresciuto naturalmente, che molti chiamano legno
massello, offre molti vantaggi come materiale di lavoro: la
sua struttura cellulare è un perfetto isolante termico, mentre
le fibre lo rendono un materiale stabile.
La struttura naturale del legno massello però può causare

spesso presenta delle lacerazioni intorno alla parte esterna
che portano alla deformazione della superficie attorno ai
nodi e alle fibre intrecciate o a differenze di stabilità negli
anelli annuali. Il componente non è utilizzabile senza ulteriori
lavorazioni o deve essere sottoposto a riparazione.
In July the Leitz designed RipTec machining process won
the Sequoia New Product Award in Las Vegas.
This follows the IWF Challengers Award won last year and
is the second internationally major award presented to this
new processing method.
Black Jack, Poker, one-armed bandits and casinos immediately
spring to mind when one hears the name Las Vegas,
but Las Vegas offers more. The AWFS Fair, the international
trade fair of the Association of Woodworking & Furnishing
Suppliers, draws nearly 20.000 visitors from the
woodworking sector each year to the mecca of gamblers.
More than 600 exhibitors showed in July 2011 including
Leitz. At the fair, Leitz won the renowned Sequoia New
Product Award in the tooling category for the RipTec process.
Since 1997 the prize has been awarded to innovative
technologies for environmentally sound processing
methods in the woodworking industry. In 2010 the RipTec
process won the IWF Challengers Award, the top award at
the U.S. timber industry‘s most significant trade fair.
The RipTec cutting procedure
Naturally grown timber which many call solid wood offers many
advantages as a working material: Its cell structure is a perfect
thermal insulator whilst the fibres make it a stable material.

del processo e la qualità della lavorazione del legname piallato.
Un sottile profilo increspato viene lavorato a macchina
su tutta la superficie fino ad arrivare al prodotto piallato rifinito.
“Il pezzo da lavorare non è diverso da uno zoccolo in
legno in miniatura,“ spiega il Responsabile R&S di Leitz, Ing.
Andreas Kisselbach. Questo passaggio è seguito da una
seconda fase di lavorazione che leviga il profilo increspato.
In questo modo i problemi derivanti dalla struttura tipica del
legno cresciuto naturalmente sono eliminati per ciascun
pezzo lavorato con il processo RipTec, ottenendo un prodotto
completamente piallato e rifinito. "Una rifinitura perfetta"
afferma orgogliosamente Kisselbach. Una soluzione di
lavorazione che costituisce una risorsa di facile utilizzo che
consentirà alle aziende che adotteranno il processo RipTec
di ottenere una lavorazione senza sbavature e con meno
scarti. Inoltre, le lame di piallatura RipTec presentano una
durata maggiore e richiedono un minor dispendio di energia,
consentendo al tempo stesso di risparmiare e salvaguardare
l’ambiente. Il processo RipTec è ideale per altre
applicazioni nel settore della lavorazione del legno, ad
esempio nei giunti degli angoli delle finestre. Applicando la
colla su una superficie seghettata si creano piccole tasche
di colla. Dopo la compressione del legno operata da un
altro componente, il collante nel giunto di tenuta rimane
perfettamente saldo. Le aziende che utilizzano il processo
RipTec per giunti tracciati, scanalati e a tenoni ottengono
prodotti decisamente più solidi e resistenti.
La gestione dell'innovazione come fattore di successo
La fortuna non è un fattore da considerare nel successo
ottenuto dal processo di lavorazione RipTec nella città del
gioco d'azzardo. “In un settore altamente tecnologico,
come è il settore della lavorazione del legno, i prodotti e le
procedure innovative non sono idee balzate per caso dalla
mente di inventori", enfatizza il dott. Dieter Brucklacher,
Presidente del Consiglio di Amministrazione di Leitz.
Le decisioni dell’azienda sono alla base dei nuovi sviluppi,
permettendo una ricerca di successo: gestione dell'innovazione
è la parola magica. “Il progresso tecnico deve essere
sistematicamente pianificato e controllato”, afferma il dott.
Brucklacher. “Questo processo comincia con l'identificazione
delle aree di ricerca più promettenti, passando poi attraverso
la realizzazione degli investimenti necessari, investimenti
che possono richiedere anni per essere recuperati”.

be repaired. The Leitz developed RipTec process improves
the process reliability and machined quality of the planed timber.
A fine ripple profile is machined into the surface before
finish planing. “The workpiece is not unlike a washboard in
miniature,“ explains Leitz’s chief R&D engineer Andreas
Kisselbach. This is followed by a second processing step
which smooths the ripple profile. So the problems with in the
naturally grown wood structure are eliminated resulting in
each work piece pre machined by the RipTec process having
a consistent planed finish. “A perfect finish,” says Kisselbach
proudly. A resource friendly processing solution and companies
working with the RipTec process have less processing
faults and less scrap. Additionally RipTec planning knives
have both a longer life time and use less energy - saving both
money and the environment. The RipTec process is ideal for
other applications in the woodworking industry, e.g. window
corner joints. Applying glue on a serrated surface creates
small glue pockets. When compressing by another wood
component, the glue remains in the joint sealing the joint better.
Companies using the RipTec process for scribed or slot
and tenon joints have significantly more stronger products.
Innovation management as a key of success
Luck is not a factor in the success of the RipTec machining
process in a city of gambling. “In a high-tech industry such as
the woodworking sector, innovative products and procedures
are not the random ideas of inventors,” emphasises Dr. Dieter
Brucklacher, Chairman of the Leitz Board. Company decisions
are the reason for new developments; they allow successful
research - innovation management is the magic word.
“The technical progress has to be planned and controlled systematically”,
says Dr Brucklacher. “This stretches from first identifying
promising areas of research through to making necessary
investments, investments which can take years to recover.
