50 th anniversary of
Egger Group

Conosco la ditta Egger di
St. Johann in Tirolo, Austria
da 29 anni, cioè da quando
fondai la Datalignum.
In tutti questi anni ho visitato
sue fabbriche ubicate in vari
Stati e posso testimoniare il
notevole sviluppo di questo
Gruppo industriale, che
oggi conta 17 stabilimenti
nel mondo, 22 uffici commerciali,
6.500 dipendenti
ed una produzione annua di
6,4 milioni mc di pannelli,
con un turnover di 1,8
miliardi di Euro (anno 2010).
Fritz Egger, padre degli
attuali titolari, fondò una
piccola fabbrica per la produzione
di segati e pannelli truciolari nel 1961 e nell’arco di
qualche decennio, con investimenti ed espansioni sui mercati
esteri, dette notevole impulso allo sviluppo.
Purtroppo, nel 1982 Fritz Egger morì in un incidente automobilistico.
Da quel momento è iniziata la gestione dei fratelli
Egger: Fritz Jr., Michael e Edmund. Anche quest’ultimo,
nel 1996 morì in un incidente aereo a 39 anni.
Questo tragico destino ed il profondo dolore procurato da
così grandi perdite, non ha tolto ai due fratelli la tenacia, la
determinazione di far crescere l’azienda di famiglia ed
hanno tenacemente attuato una rivalsa contro le fatalità
così drammatiche. Infatti con la gestione di Fritz e Michael
Egger l’espansione è continuata ed è andata oltre ogni
ragionevole aspettativa, avendo saputo e voluto “guardare
lontano”: I numeri sopra citati lo dimostrano e non hanno
bisogno di commento. In questo breve testo non voglio parlare
di tecnologie, di impianti per la produzione, di innovazioni,
ma voglio sottolineare la grande importanza che la
famiglia Egger attribuisce ai rapporti umani.
Sì, perché nonostante la dimensione industriale assunta, il
Gruppo Egger ha ancora una impostazione familiare che
tiene in grande considerazione questi importanti valori e ha
un comportamento amichevole con tutti, siano questi
dipendenti, fornitori o clienti.
Vivo in questo settore da 46 anni e per la mia professione
ho visitato migliaia di fabbriche, conosciuto migliaia di per-

Over these last three decades
I have visited factories
of theirs in various countries,
and I can testify to the
impressive growth of this
industrial group, which
today boasts 17 factories
worldwide, in addition to 22
commercial offices, 6,500
employees, an annual production
of 6.4 million m3 of
panels and a yearly turnover
of € 1.8 billion (2010).
In 1961, Fritz Egger, the
father of the firm’s current
owners, founded a small factory to produce timber and
chipboard. In the space of just a few decades, thanks to the
investments made and expansion into foreign markets, the
firm grew considerably. Sadly, Fritz Egger was killed in a car
accident in 1982. The management of the company was
then taken over by his sons Fritz Jr., Michael and Edmund.
Edmund also met an untimely death, losing his life at just 39
in an air crash. This tragic fate and the depth of the sorrow
caused by the loss of their father and brother took nothing
away from the tenacity of the two surviving brothers, whose
determination to make the family business grow helped
them to cope with such a cruel destiny.
With Fritz and Michael Egger at the helm, the company
continued to expand, surpassing all expectations, thanks to
their business acumen and forward-looking vision.
This success is demonstrated by the figures above, which
need no further comment. In this brief piece it is not my
intention to speak of technologies, manufacturing systems
and innovation; what I would like to focus on is just how
important human relationships are to the Egger family. In
spite of the extent to which the Egger Group has grown, it
is still run with a family business approach that holds these
important values in high regard and behaves in the same
friendly manner towards everyone, be they employees,
suppliers or customers. I have spent 46 years in this sector,
and in the course of my professional career I have visited
