The company is planning to export its products to Japan based on the CAS (Cells Alive System) method. The main product of Dinejeju Co., Ltd. is “Jeju Black Pig Pork Cutlet.” According to customer taste and size preferences, it comes in a wide variety of products such as mini-sized or with the addition of cheese, garlic, etc. The main ingredient is the tenderloin of Jeju black pig. Designed as a convenience food (“ready-to-eat”), Jeju black pig pork cutlets can be served after just three minutes of warming in a microwave. This makes Dinejeju’s products a simple food which can be enjoyed by busy office workers and as a nutritional snack for children. The unique feature of Dinejeju Co., Ltd. is its state of the art freezing technique - CAS. Standing for “quick freeze system,” it has only been introduced in advanced countries such as the United States, Japan, and nations in Europe. The biggest advantage of the system is that the taste and scent of food can be kept intact. Dinejeju Co., Ltd. was the first company to introduce the CAS system in Korea in 2009. The production process of Jeju black pig pork cutlet has several stages. The main ingredient - pork tenderloin - first goes through two treatments: semifinished-processing and oil-heat processing. Second, the processed pork is quick-frozen to (-55) for one hour and freeze-distributed using the CAS system. Frozen Jeju black pig pork cutlets can be stored for a long time, so despite heating the product in a microwave or electric oven, consumers can experience the crispy taste and aromatic smell of freshly fried 1 2 3 pork cutlet. Also, the usual half-processed frozen pork cutlets need to be fried before eating, thus creating a problem with reusing the remaining oil. Mr. Yoon Jae-hak, CEO of the company explains that “it is easy for the common frozen pork cutlets to lose the crispy taste and get tough, but our pork cutlets, thanks to the CAS, can retain the natural taste of a pork cutlet. Moreover, the company does not use any artificial additives and, instead of cooking oil, uses canola oil that is rich in omega-3.” The heat treatment processed pork of Dinejeju Co., Ltd. will get a HACCP certification from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) of Japan in the latter half of this year. After obtaining Japanese HACCP, the company is going to knock on the door of the Japanese pork cutlet market. Buyers from Hong Kong and Mongolia are also interested in Dinejeju’s product and the company is currently negotiating export deals with them. 1. Our company, Shanghai Kingfoods Condiment Co., Ltd., is an expert in food imports. We have distributed more than 300 items for sales in Chinese supermarkets and stores. In 2010, we imported products worth more than USD$4 million from Korea. What made you import Korean agri-products? I think Korean foods are very unique and, at the same time, have a long tradition, so more and more of our customers want to try Korean foods. What kinds of Korean agri-products are you importing? From Korea, we are currently importing honey citron tea and condiments, with a particular focus on two famous brands - the honey citron tea of “Samhwa Hanyang” and the soy sauce and condiments of “Sempio.” How large is the imported amount of Korean agriproducts? Last year, we imported more than 50 containers of honey citron tea and more than 15 containers of Sempio condiments. Young Chinese especially are quite familiar with the Korean foods. They want to try different lifestyles. How do local people respond to the imported Korean agri-products? Has the response been favorable? Chinese consumers trust the quality of Korean foods. Korean honey citron tea is very popular in China. Soybean paste and red pepper paste are also becoming more and more popular. This bodes well for our company. But I think the price of Korean processed foods is mostly not cheap. And a quality is often evenly spread. Could you tell us about your plans for importing Korean agri-products and any other business plans that you would like to share with us? Since 2007, we have been increasing imports of Korean foods by 25 percent each year. We plan to select more Korean brands for import and introduce new items to the Chinese consumers.
