The complexity of imaging
environments and the performance
expectations of
radiologists have multiplied
exponentially.
Rising expectations and requirements in an
increasingly complex healthcare environment
coupled with decreasing resources
require significant improvements in productivity
and efficiency within medical imaging. The rapid
adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) and
the increased volume and speed of new medical
information make workflow management even
more important for healthcare providers to deliver
timely, high-quality patient care. To provide
maximum value to patients it’s important for
healthcare providers to work together with informaticians
to provide meaningful innovation
that will lead to lower costs, quicker turnaround
times and improved outcomes.
To achieve these aims, the next generation of
imaging informatics must possess several specific
capabilities within a workflow solution, including
rich interoperability between disparate
systems, optimized and targeted context-specific
workflow, business intelligence and analytics
(BIA), and synergy with the EHR. With these
new capabilities, the next generation of workflow
solutions will finally have the ability to leverage
and maximize the content contained in all RIS,
PACS, speech recognition and EHR systems.
