Indiana Court of Appeals Hears Oral Argument at IU McKinney The Indiana Court of Appeals heard oral argument in the case Garcia v. State in the Wynne Courtroom at the law school on January 15, 2015. The state’s intermediate appellate court holds oral arguments at IU McKinney at least once a year, as part of the court’s outreach efforts. In this particular case, the attorneys arguing on both sides of the aisle were alumni of IU McKinney. Heath Johnson, ‘09, and Suzy St. John, ‘09, were the attorneys for the appellant. Larry Allen, ‘12, was the deputy Attorney General for Indiana. The criminal case originated in Marion County, and concerned a Class D felony conviction for possession of a schedule III controlled substance. Judge Robert D. Vinikoor Speaks at McKinney Law On November 17, 2014, Judge Robert D. McKinney School of Law was the site of the Midwest Law and Economics Association Conference in October of 2014. The event consisted of law professors and economists presenting papers with varying degrees of law-and-economics content, ranging from empirical analyses and formal economic modeling to legal philosophy and doctrinal papers infused with economic thinking.
