SUNDAY SCHOOL OF RELIGION
Sunday School of Religion Introduction
The Sunday School of
Religion provides religious
education for children from
Kindergarten through 8 th grade
who do not attend a Catholic
School. It also provides
instruction for the Sacraments of
First Reconciliation and First
Eucharist and supports parents as
they work to prepare their
children for this important
milestone.
School of Religion Catechists
The School of Religion is
blessed with its excellent catechist
volunteers! This school year, 20
catechists, seven assistant
catechists, and seven helpers
brought religion to life for our students. Most
have been teaching in the program for more
than 10 years, and some for more than 20 years!
We're always looking for new catechists, so we
invite you to get “hooked” on spreading the
Good News by volunteering! To learn more
School of Religion Program
This year 272 students registered for the
Sunday School of Religion to explore “What
Catholics Believe,” “How Catholics Worship,” “How
Catholics Live,” and “How Catholics Pray” using
the religion series Blest Are We. We also
explored the dignity of human life, Catholic
morality, and family relationships through our
Family Life catechesis book, Growing In Love.
Our goal is to help students make good
decisions, build healthy relationships, and stay
safe. We presented the material from a Catholic
values perspective in a sensitive and
First-graders hard at work at Sunday School of Religion.
age-appropriate manner. We also worshipped
together at class Masses, and celebrated the
sacrament of Reconciliation at least once during
the year.
Service is another important feature of
the School of Religion. To help our sister
parish, Immaculate Conception on Mosher
Street, we collected canned goods and Giant
gift cards at Thanksgiving, and clothing and
toys at Christmas. During Lent, we collected
money in the Lenten boxes for the Holy
Childhood Association.
Winter Bingo
Christmas Bingo is the Sunday School
of Religion’s annual fund-raiser. It was a fun
evening for all ages that included dinner, bingo,
and raffle baskets. Thanks to all who supported
our program by donating prizes and attending
the event!
