22 7 Vipassānā Meditation

Nong Pa Pong many years ago, but I follow your activity. Now
it is mentioned that, in the tradition of Luang Pu Cha, there is
kind of combination between samatha, calmness meditation,
and vipassāna, insight meditation.
The combination is a necessity because if you dwell
only on the level of samatha meditation, this is not a purely
Buddhist meditation. When you come the West, you will
have to teach insight meditation, which is uniquely Buddhist
meditation. It is characteristic of Buddhism.
There are two characteristics of Theravāda Buddhism
from the Thai tradition or the Sri Lankan or any kind of
Pāli tradition. One is insight meditation; the other is the
Abhidhamma. You cannot ignore the Abhidhamma if you
want to study the Theravāda tradition or the Thai tradition
of Buddhism. The Abhidhamma like a road map to practice
meditation to attain Enlightenment. In practical terms, you
have to follow the path by practicing insight meditation. So
the Abhidhamma is to give you the rational guidelines of
