citta, cetasika, rūpa, and nibbāna. Citta means consciousness,<br />
your mind. Cetasika means mental acts or mental contents,<br />
whatever methods of mental activities or mental practices there<br />
are. Rūpa means your body. Nibbāna means the outcome<br />
of the Enlightenment. So the Abhidhamma is a roadmap to<br />
Enlightenment. It gives you rational guidelines for vipassāna.<br />
The Abhidhamma presents the theoretical aspects of insight<br />
meditation. The practical aspect of the Buddhist teaching is<br />
vipassāna.<br />
Now let us turn to the subject of teaching meditation in<br />
the West. There are many things to talk about, and I will try<br />
to give you my idea. I think the details of insight meditation<br />
are up to you. It is up to the various members of the groups to<br />
consider this subject. So when we focus our attention on how<br />
to teach insight meditation in the West, I would suggest that<br />
do not forget the <strong>Thai</strong> tradition of concentration meditation.<br />
