ONZK was won in IRC 3 by the Dehler 29, Bayern
Motorsport. She won all races in which she
participated. The 2nd place was taken by good old
Capella, followed by Waverider in the 3rd place.
For 2013 the ONZK will be organized in the
same success formula as in 2012. There is only
one change: Light Vessel weekend will not be a
classical weekend with upwind-downwind races,
but will instead be a 150 nm race to celebrate the
150th anniversary of the Royal Belgian Sailing
Club during the last weekend of June. It will start
on Friday 28 June in the evening. We hope to see
the same amount of boats participating as in the
good old days of the Light Vessel race.

Une tendance vers le haut
niveau
Sans aucun doute cette année 2012 a été
assez difficile à beaucoup de points de vue.
Heureusement, résultats en main, l'Unione
Vela d'Altura Italiana (UVAI), en collaboration
avec la Federazione Italiana Vela (FIV), a réussi à
garder un nombre de certificats IRC très proche
de celui de la saison précédente, résultat d'un
excellent travail de l'Association de classe
qui réunit tous les propriétaires italiens. Le
remarquable succès de beaucoup de régates
en haute mer, par exemple la "151 Miglia-
Trofeo Celadrin" (plus de 100 concurrents à la
troisième édition) et de la classique "Giraglia
Rolex Cup" (150 concurrents environ), sans
oublier l'excellente fréquentation de nouvelles
manifestations, même internationales, comme
l'International IRC Trophy de Porto San Rocco
(Trieste), ont donc permis à la flotte italienne
IRC de garder un niveau remarquable.
Il est sûr et certain que le niveau technique des
manifestations IRC monte, grâce à la qualité
des bateaux et des équipages concernés,
grâce aussi aux organisateurs, capables de
concevoir des manifestations de très haut
niveau qui n'ont pas déçu les propriétaires des
bateaux intéressés. Progressivement on est
donc en train de passer d'une activité locale,
quand même assez diffusée et importante, à
des manifestations de haut niveau, ouvertes
aux étrangers. Dans beaucoup d’évènements
internationaux, l’IRC et l’ORC International
coexistent, ce qui permet aux organisateurs de
proposer aux participants une offre simple et
techniquement complète.
A part les régates déjà citées, rappelons aussi
le “Trofeo Pirelli” à Santa Margherita Ligure et
le “Trofeo Gavitello d’Argento” à Punta Ala,
régate historique qui nous réservera beaucoup
de surprises en 2013, en commençant par un
nouveau format international de l’évènement,
pour attirer de nombreux propriétaires
étrangers (français in primis) le long de la
splendide et toujours venteuse côte toscane.
Pour les évènements institutionnels de la
saison 2013, l’UVAI présentera un format de
régate plus court (moins de jours de régates)
donc plus économique et de participation plus
facile. L’objectif pour l’IRC en Italie est celui
de rester, à la fin de la prochaine année, aux
alentours des 1000 certificats distribués sur le
territoire national.

With no doubt, the year 2012 was a difficult
one on several points of view. Fortunately, as
shown by the results, the Unione Vela d’Altura
Italiana (UVAI), with Federazione Italiana de
Vela, managed to maintain the number of IRC
certificates as it was the past year. It is the
consequence of the excellent work of the
class Association joining all the Italian owners.
Many offshore races had a great success,
for instance the “151 Miglia-Trofeo Celadrin”
(more than 100 entries for the third edition)
and the classical “Giraglia Rolex cup” (around
150 entries). News events, even international
events, such as the International IRC Trophy
Porto San Racco (Trieste), knew a huge
participation and finally, the Italian fleet kept a
very respectable level.
For sure, the technical level of IRC regattas is
upgrading, thanks to the quality of the yachts
and the crews, thanks also to the organizers
who are able to imagine and to manage top
level events very appreciated by the owners.
Slowly but surely, IRC known as a locally
developed important activity, turns to an
international high level racing frame. On many
occasion, IRC and ORC International coexist,
which gives the opportunity to race organizers
to propose a simple and full options offer.
Additionally, let’s also recall that the “Trofeo
Pirelli” in Santa Margherita Ligure and the
“Trofeo Gavitello d’Argento” in Punta al,
an historical regatta with a new surprising
and international 2013 program. The aim is
to welcome more yachts and owners from
abroad (firstly the French ones) along the
splendid and windy coast of Toscana.
On the institutional events of the 2013
season, UVAI will present a shorter regatta
format (less days of competition) for the
owners to reduce the racing costs, then to
attend more easily. The aim of IRC in Italy is
to reach around 1000 IRC rated national boats
at the end of next year.
