From the success screen shown in Figure 2.9, click on Finish to bring up Optim Development Studio. 2.3.2 Applying Optim Development Studio Fixpack 1 After you have finished installing Optim Development Studio 2.2, you should apply all the existing fixpacks. At the time of writing of this book, a fixpack is available that lets you upgrade your ODS instance to the 2.2.0.1 level. This fixpack can be installed in two ways: • By starting IBM Installation Manager and selecting the option Update Packages. • By downloading the fixpack archive file and install it manually by setting up a local repository in your machine. Instructions for this installation method can be found at the official Optim Development Studio 2.2.0.1 webpage.
Chapter 2 – Installing pureQuery (Optim Development Studio) 55 2.4 Running Optim Development Studio Optim Development Studio provides additional functionality over what Data Studio provides. We strongly recommend that you read the book Getting Started with IBM Data Studio for DB2 in order to learn more about this integrated development environment, its perspectives, views and how use it for database administration and development. 2.4.1 Adding pureQuery support to projects Optim Development Studio provides pureQuery tooling that delivers functionality such as code generation, performance monitoring, content assist for SQL in Java code, an SQL outline view, and more. This tooling is available for projects with pureQuery support, which can be added to any project that has a Java nature in Optim Development Studio. Java projects Optim Development Studio inherits the Java development functionality from Eclipse. If you are not familiar with Java development using the Eclipse integrated development environment, we recommend that you read the book Getting Started with Eclipse before you read the rest of this book. To add pureQuery support to an existing Java project: 1. Right click in the project and select pureQuery -> Add pureQuery Support… Figure 2.10 - Adding pureQuery support to a Java project 2. This will bring you to the Add pureQuery Support wizard. 3. In the first page of the wizard, select the SAMPLE connection, which will be used in this book by Optim Development Studio for all database related tasks. For instructions on how to create the SAMPLE database, please refer to the book Getting Started with DB2 Express-C.
