Kay Watkinson, Area
Manager – Norfolk 5951
The Calman Trust, Inverness
Three colleagues from our North Division
(Region 25 North of Scotland) headed for
the Highlands to see the work of the Calman
Trust first-hand.
The Trust offers housing support, training
and employment opportunities to young
people seeking independent living.
A BBC Children in Need grant of £75,392
is being used to provide homeless young
people with the tools to plan and cook basic
meals, helping them lead a healthier lifestyle
and develop both personal and social skills.
“We really did get a lot out of the visit; we
met some of the young people in a cooking
class and joined them for lunch.” Samantha
Gauld, Store Manager, Store 6598 Elgin EOT.
“Our host, Isobel, walked and talked us
through how the funding worked to benefit
the young people coming through the doors.
She was really appreciative of the funds that
our stores had raised, and that meant so
much to us.” Kathie Morrison, Consultant –
Store 672 Inverness.
”There was a real feeling of community.
You could tell from the conversations with
the young people that they felt a sense
of belonging and pride in what they’d
learned.” Danny Thomas, Store Manager –
Inverness 6441.
