THE BOOTS BENEVOLENT FUND IS A BIG PART OF
OUR COMMITMENT TO CARE – NOT JUST FOR OUR
CUSTOMERS, BUT OUR COLLEAGUES TOO
A
helping
hand
I’m really lucky to work on the Boots
Benevolent Fund – each day gives
me memorable moments. Every time
the Fund supports colleagues with a
grant or a loan it feels amazing. It’s a
real privilege to be able to support
our colleagues in this way.
SUCCESS STORIES
Julia* had been suffering
from domestic violence in
her relationship for 14 years.
When she finally found the
courage to leave her abusive
husband, the Fund helped
her with a loan to cover the
deposit and first month’s
rent. Julia is now safe
and well.
Imran*, his wife and family of
four children were threatened
with eviction from the family
home due to missed payment of
rent following Imran’s absence
from work owing to illness.
The Fund helped Imran with
his rent arrears, which stopped
the eviction so the family could
remain in their home.
At Boots, we truly believe in active
care – and this extends to both current
and former colleagues. The Boots
Benevolent Fund offers loans and
grants to those who are experiencing
unexpected financial hardship –
supporting with rent and council tax
arrears through to funeral costs.
In times of recession and economic
hardship, the Fund is proving more
important than ever. Giving our
colleagues a helping hand when life
gets difficult can make an enormous
difference to their health and wellbeing,
benevolent
fund
as well as easing their financial
situation. Their families, of course,
benefit too.
We’d love to help more people, so
raising colleague awareness about
the Boots Benevolent Fund is really
important, and Benny Day helps us do
just that.
This year, we’re even more
committed to helping our colleagues
understand just how special our Fund
is, including how to access it, how to
give to it, but most importantly, how it
helps care for our people.
Last year the Boots Benevolent Fund helped
over 280 colleagues with grants and loans
amounting to over £200,000. This is an
incredible achievement and would not have
been possible without the money raised by you.
Carly’s* mum lived 200 miles away
and sadly was diagnosed with terminal
cancer; Carly visited as much as she
could afford and often spoke with her
mother on the phone. After a hard-fought
battle, her mum sadly passed away. Carly
didn’t have the finances to travel to her
mum’s funeral, so the Fund paid towards
travel costs so that she could say a
proper goodbye to her mum.
Help us to Help You
Our ambition is for every single colleague to
support the Fund by donating £1 through the
Give As You Earn (GAYE) scheme. It’s tax free
and comes direct from your pay.
To donate, simply scan the QR code or check
out the intranet / MyStoreNet.
Together we can make a huge difference!
This year’s Benny Day was held on Wednesday 15 July.
We hope you had a lot of fun, for such a worthy cause.
Where it all started…
The Boots Benevolent Fund is part of our
rich heritage. Our colleagues have always
supported fellow colleagues.
A fund was started in 1908 as a
Distress Fund to help in cases of absence
from work. In cases of distress, the Nurse
handed in a report and grants were made
from the Fund of up to £25 per week.
