The four practice runs paid off handsomely.<br />
When it came time to actually paint the waves<br />
onto the aircraft, everything went smoothly<br />
through the course of a single afternoon’s paint<br />
session. “It was easily our most diffi cult project,”<br />
Peens adds.<br />
Normally a VIP paint job on a BBJ takes<br />
around three weeks. Given the diffi culty of this<br />
particular project, fi ve weeks were needed to<br />
complete the paint project.<br />
The team spent four weeks doing trial paint<br />
runs on mock ups. Then the whole design was<br />
spray painted by two teams - one on either side<br />
of the aircraft - in a single, mammoth, three<br />
hour session.<br />
“There is no doubt that this was the most<br />
exciting, and the most complex paint project<br />
we have ever undertaken,” says Caillet. “This<br />
aircraft was our 25th BBJ completion so we’ve<br />
been at this a long time but we’d never before<br />
undertaken such a challenging livery design.<br />
“No matter how complicated a paint job might<br />
be, our team is able to deliver beautiful results.”<br />
The Center has already gained several new<br />
projects as a result of other owners being highly<br />
impressed by the design. “Other principals have<br />
seen the aircraft and inquired where it was designed<br />
and painted - and that has been tremendous<br />
for us,” he notes.<br />
