What are the key trends for 2016?
Firstly, we see the emergence of indigo
blue as a key colour. This is evident in
both interior fabrics and paint colours; William Yeowood
has
a lovely new range of fabrics actually called Indigo Blue, and
The Little Greene Paint Company have produced a new range
of bright blues. We’re already seeing the use of indigo blue in
kitchens, bathrooms, on islands, panelling and walls and this
trend is likely to grow. We’ve also noticed a keen interest in
the Mid-Century Modern look, with the resurgence of Ercol,
Danish and Scandinavian style, along with the use of bold bright
colours, in a fresh modern English style, inspired by Kit Kemp.
What is your stand out project of last year? We worked
with our clients on the renovation and refurbishment of
a medieval hall house in East Sutton. We helped with
the lighting design and all the interior finishes, as well
as the decorating schemes and soft furnishings.
do you have an interior design pet hate? I don’t have a particular
pet hate, but I’m not keen on the new plastic fixings that have to
secure the chains of all Roman blind chain winders, due to new
regulations. Clients aren’t happy to have these basic plastic fixings
on their window architraves or walls as they look so ugly! However,
one of our pole suppliers has come up with an inspirational
design for an alternative in brass, bronze, and satin nickel, which
we will be offering our customers from now on. For more
Is there a particular product or design
feature that’s been popular this year?
I would say that following a period of
subtle understatement with a lot of
grey and beige, there is definitely a trend towards stronger,
brighter colours. Even colours you might consider to be
clashing, such as pinks, oranges and greens. People are much
more confident with design and are loving being bold!
Scandinavian style is also very popular. Fewer items with a
strong design ethos, primary colours and blonde wood.
Where do you look for inspiration? We purchase a lot of
our stock in Europe, so inspiration for details, finishes or
colour trends comes from there. We regularly attend the
major shows and keep ourselves up to speed with samples of
new fabrics, lighting and furniture that come from the design
houses. Even old fabrics used in a new way can be inspiring.
What are you stocking up on for 2016? Definitely brighter
colours and richer, bolder fabrics. There is a trend for
technically innovative fabrics and stronger design features. We
are also stocking a great range of statement lighting, which
makes a huge difference to the style and ambience of any
room. Minimalism is definitely being replaced by a richer,
more dramatic style. For more information contact 01892
