Transit Expansion Timeline
25th anniversary oF Metro rail
July 14, 2015 marked the 25th anniversary of the Metro Rail Blue line, and the rebirth of rail in Los Angeles County. When the
Blue Line opened in 1990, the Metro Rail system consisted of one line, spanning 22 miles and 22 stations. Now, 25 years later,
rail has become an integral part of our county’s transit system. The timeline below shows how Metro Rail, Orange Line and
Silver Line expansion progressed through the past three decades, as well as how Metro will continue to expand our service
in the future.
