HOW WE WORK
PUBLIC BENEFIT
In reviewing our aims and objectives and planning
future activities, the Trustees have taken into account
the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public
benefit. The Trustees always ensure that the activities
undertaken are in line with the charitable objectives
and aims of Bloodwise. Although our activities are
specifically inspired and motivated by the needs
of blood cancer patients, there is no doubt that our
understanding of blood cancers often leads the way
in enhancing understanding of other cancers and
diseases.
OUR EMPLOYEES AND
VOLUNTEERS
The tremendous progress that we continue to make
for patients is only possible thanks to the dedication
and hard work of our volunteers, supporters and
employees.
In the last year alone our voluntary Branches
contributed £1.2 million of income (FY14: £1.4 million),
but they are also our local ambassadors, creating
connections and awareness in their local communities.
We treasure our volunteers who work with our
employees in our various offices, who demonstrate
their commitment to Bloodwise by being prepared to
help in any way that they can. We also would be unable
to manage many of our sporting and special events
without time given voluntarily by very many special
people.
We employ 114 people and are committed to supporting
their learning and development needs; making our
reward and recognition policies as fair as possible;
and where possible offering opportunities to work on
project groups beyond their own sphere of specialist
knowledge.
Inspired by our patients, Bloodwise is a passionate
place to be, but building friendships with potentially
terminally ill people brings both great rewards and
emotional challenges. We support our employees with
an assistance programme and most recently we have
been able to offer psychological and emotional support.
We never forget our patients and their families, who are
at the heart of all that we do.
TRUSTEES’ INDEMNITY
The Company purchased and maintained throughout
the financial year Trustees’ liability insurance in
respect of itself and its Trustees.
INDEPENDENT AUDITOR
Deloitte LLP have expressed their willingness to
continue to act as auditor.
The Trustee’s report, including the strategic report, was
approved by the Board of Trustees on 23 June 2015.
