310 kW AMG biturbo engine
for the reduction of emissions in
diesel vehicles, in particular for the
reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOX).
The BlueTEC version installed in
the G-Class operates with AdBlue®
an aqueous urea solution that is
injected into the exhaust gas stream.
This releases ammonium, which in
the SCR catalytic converter located
downstream, reduces up to 80
per cent of the nitrogen oxides to
harmless nitrogen and water.
As the G-Class is often used in
remote regions of the world,
the engineers designed a simplified
AdBlue refill opening integrated in
the outside tank recess. A full tank
lasts around 12,000 kilometres.
The V6 diesel engine of the G 350
BlueTec achieves an output of 155
kW (210 hp) at 3400 rpm, and a
torque of 540 Nm in an engine speed
range from 1600 to 2400 rpm.
With similar output levels as its
predecessor – the G 350 CDI – this
model produces a significantly
lower amount of emissions, falling
below the Euro 5 standard. In
particular, the NOX emissions have
been reduced by around 50 per cent
compared with the former model.
The new 8-cylinder biturbo
powerplant in the G 500 is based
on the new generation of V8 engines
developed by Mercedes-AMG that
have already coaxed exceptional
levels of performance out of the
Mercedes-AMG GT and Mercedes-
AMG C 63. For use in the G-Class,
the V8 has been modified to deliver
310 kW (422 hp) with torque of 610
Nm.
All new Mercedes-Benz G-Class
models offer up to 16 percent more
power and up to 17 percent lower
fuel consumption.
