BRABUS OWNERSHIP
S
o what is it like to own a BRABUS?
Truthfully, it is the biggest grin machine anyone
could want and I love it! The BRABUS K8 has the
same footprint as the SL55, with ‘only’ 50 hp more, but
it looks and feels entirely different. The ‘donor’ SL55 is
lowered by 15mm, given a tarmac-sniffing front spoiler,
full aero kit and 20 inch custom wheels with drag strip
tyres. With its highly modified engine, the K8 is an SL55
with an attitude problem.
when the right foot comes in to play, increasing
in tone and volume from a booming V8 rumble at low
speeds to a thundering roar as the engine is let loose. The
auto industry says that 50% of a car sale to a male is the
sound it makes and this one has it in spades. Only on
rare occasions is there music is in the cockpit, as having
the roof down and listening to the orchestra from the
tailpipes respond to throttle blips and spirited driving
moves is more fun– all within the speed limit of course.
On a recent run with the Ferrari Club it managed to drown
out Lamborghini Aventadors and several modern Ferraris
when going under a bridge.
Around town, the K8 is as docile as the donor car.
Being a fan of planting the pedal occasionally, this
means holding on for dear life (as some of my passengers
will attest), as the K8 turns in to the ultimate fun ride!
Overtaking at any speed is very fast, inspiring maniacal
laughter and although the base SL55 already provides
this, the K8 simply offers more for longer. There are
modifications to the supercharger drive with a custom
