These only show that the development and assimilation of the <strong>Christian</strong><br />

concepts were a struggle and a process; and that other primitive religious<br />

forces were in the foray.<br />

Baladeva as Christ<br />

In this strict Vaishanavite tradition, the Trinity is represented by Lord<br />

Jaganath, Lord Baladev and Subhadra corresponding to God the Father,<br />

God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Gaudiya tradition represents<br />

them in more abstract way. Jagannath means Lord of the Universe.<br />

Jagnnath is black, representing sunya or incomprehensibity. He is also<br />

'Devadhideva' (the Lord of the Lords) and 'Rajadhiraj' (King of the<br />

Kings). He is Purushottama i.e. the Supreme Man. Baladev means<br />

Mighty God and is always represented as white being the<br />

comprehensible or who can be percived or understood. Subhadra means<br />

Comfort. Subhandra is female in gender and is always the intermediary<br />

– the Spirit and Power of life.<br />

The well-known trinity representation of the trinity is the Trinity Ananda<br />

Sesha – the infinite remains. The trinity is the expression of the infinite<br />

unknowable in the knowable perceptive jagat. Puri is considered to be
