CDC issues travel notice for St. Lucia
CASTRIES - One week after local health
authorities confirmed its first autochthonous
Zika virus infection, the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a travel
notice yesterday for the island of St. Lucia.
Local mosquito transmission means that
mosquitoes in the area are infected with Zika
virus and are spreading it to people.
There is no vaccine or medicine for Zika.
Because Zika virus is primarily spread by
mosquitoes, CDC recommends that travelers
to St Lucia protect themselves from mosquito
bites which includes: Cover exposed
skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts and long
pants.
Use EPA-registered insect repellents
containing DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon
eucalyptus. Always use as directed. Pregnant
and breastfeeding women can use all
EPA-registered insect repellents, including
an effort to take advantage of emerging
opportunities.
Inniss spoke about the plans when
he received a courtesy call from Cuba’s
Ambassador to Barbados, Francisco
Fernandez Pena. He said that apart
from forging deeper economic relations
with Cuba, the Barbados Government
was also eager to engage robustly
in trade, and there were a number of
companies ready to do business with
the Spanish-speaking nation.
Inniss also pointed out that over the
years, Cuba has been committed to providing
extensive technical assistance
to Barbados, especially in the area of
health care. And Ambassador Pena noted
that since the establishment of diplomatic
relations in December 1972,
Barbados and Cuba have maintained
a cordial relationship characterized by
cooperation and mutual respect. (Caribbean360).
water system and street upgrade.
The Roseau Enhancement
Project has been described
as a comprehensive
plan comprised of a number
of different projects related
to the urban infrastructure
upgrading and enhancement
to include the road network,
bridges, drainage, street
lighting and streetscape of
Roseau and the improvement
of the flow of traffic in
Roseau among others. When
the MOU was signed in 2014
decision to upgrade Roseau
could become a model for
other Caribbean islands.
