Colorado Nurses Association (CNA) represents
members for the purposes of advocating for all
Registered Nurses in Colorado. To fulfill that
work, we are dependent on member voices and
engagement in establishing priorities. We strive to
match advocacy efforts for all RN’s who, we know,
work in a variety of practice areas all across the
State.
The CNA Board of Directors has been studying
the most effective methods of engaging members
who find themselves with less leisure time and
energy for long-term committee and/or district
work. The Board has engaged with District
and Special Interest Group Presidents both
within Colorado, and within other States, to
better understand the dynamic tension between
community based needs and a strong central voice
of Colorado RN’s at the ongoing legislative and
regulatory discussions and decision making. We
don’t know the best practice as of yet, and will
certainly bring any and all options for discussion
and member vote, if necessary, at our 2016 Annual

Simultaneously, you will see the efforts the
Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP)
committee have undertaken to create policy
advisory groups on practice specific areas. Our
intention is to increase the ability of members to
engage in discussions and offer valuable insights
as to next best course of actions, in anticipation of
legislative or regulatory work. GAPP will continue
to formulate position statements on specific
bills, and include the advocacy work group
recommendations. You may participate via phone
at this time and we are exploring online platforms
to support ongoing dialogue for all members.
All organizations, and particularly professional
associations, are as strong as our member
engagement in carrying out the mission of our
work. Your particular wisdom, clinical expertise
and local relationships contribute to our
effectiveness throughout the State of Colorado.
