John Winton, who has arguably the most
experience in the intricacies that are involved
in managing and maintaining a positive club
culture.
April has been a busy month for our
golfing members, with the golf section
AGM, Captains Dinner and the annual Club
Championships taking place. We hosted our
first Trivia Quiz evening for the year, which
was again very well supported, along with 4
weddings in the Crowned Eagle. Our quiet
little club has been buzzing and I would like
to thank the staff for their commitment and
dedication over this busy period.
The Captains Dinner was great fun and I
would like to congratulate Paul Botha and
Gesi Graham on their nominations to fulfill
the respective Captains role for the next
year. John Winton has been appointed as the
Chairman of the Golf Committee and I look
forward to working with the committee for
the duration of the year. Two new committee
members have also been appointed in Vimul
Valabjee and Alex Loizides, who will provide
a great deal of experience in their respective
nominated portfolios. I would also like to
recognize the immense contribution made
by the outgoing Chairman, Neill Edwards,
for his support and guidance over the past 4
years, as his knowledge and understanding
of the dynamics of the Club have been very
necessary in ensuring that the committee
focuses on the matters relevant to the golf
section. Neill’s input will be missed by all
the management and staff, yet we are very
excited to have the opportunity to work with
The Club Championships, sponsored by
Seeff, heralded two new Champions for 2016.
Shane Douglas and Sharon Griffiths are your
two Club Champions, with the B division
winners Prinesh Singh and Debbie van Helt
and C division honours going to Chris Lee
and Barbara Winterbach. I mentioned at the
prize giving that it was the 3rd consecutive
year that Seeff had participated as the title
sponsor and their involvement over the
weekend was immense. We will be getting
some wonderful video footage that will be
forwarded to all the participants and the effort
that the entire Seeff team went to needs to be
commended. Other very important partners
for the weekend were Global Golf, our loyal
pro shop operator, Fitch and Leedes that
provided much needed refreshments on
day 1, as well as Cornel Van Loggerenberg
who donated two wonderful vouchers for
personal Golfit training at the BBC gym. On
behalf of the entire golfing section at Zimbali
Country Club, we extend our gratitude to
these sponsors.
The field for this year’s championship was
the largest that we have had to accommodate
in the short history of the club. 77 men and
27 ladies started the event, and although
there were a few casualties after day 1, we
were still able to complete the weekend very
successfully. The longest time that it took
for any group to play was 4 hours and 35
minutes, with the leading 3 ball on Sunday
afternoon completing the round in 4 hours
and 20 minutes. This is exceptional and
I would like to add that the necessity to
introduce a split morning and afternoon
