Hunger and poverty have not been a priority for the U.S. president and Congress for decades.<br />

As damage from climate change has mounted, the majority in Congress has refused to take<br />

action. Climate change has not been a compelling issue for most U.S. voters. Pope Francis just<br />

might help us achieve a shift in national priorities, so that our nation’s elected leaders help to<br />

put the United States and the world on track toward the virtual end of hunger. Vigorous action<br />

to address climate change is an important aspect of what is needed to end hunger.<br />
