A message from the President of the
Charbray Society of Australia
Fellow Cattle Breeders
As another year evolves, we see prices
and weather conditions improving. Prices
of store and fat cattle are maintaining
record levels with the future looking just
as bright. The season for most cattlemen
is improving with most areas receiving
drought breaking rain. Rain doesn’t bring
money, but it brings hope and with hope
comes confidence after some western
areas being in drought for the last 3 to
5 years.
Charbrays are a breed that continues
to evolve with positive results constantly
being maintained at fat cattle shows/
sales, carcass competitions and in the
stud arena. Charbrays are in demand
as they prove their versatility to suit any
market whether its weaners, steers or
bullocks. Buyers are sourcing Charbray
cattle for feedlots, backgrounders and
live exporters, every week we see across
the results Charbrays are gaining top
price.
This year our Society has lost two of their
esteemed Life Members; Mr EGG Kirk
(Ted) AFSM.OAM and Mrs. Jill Olman.
Ted was instrumental in the formation of
our Society and served on Council for
many years, he was President from 1992
to 1994. Jill’s stud Namlo Charbrays
was held in high regard, Jill served on
our Management Council from 1999 to
2011. Jill was a straight shooting person,
who had the respect of Councillors and
members.
I would like to welcome all vendors past
and present who are supporting our
National Sale. Our sales are becoming
more solid every year with our genetics
being highly sought after by commercial
and stud cattleman. With the breeding
plan our Society has implemented,
the cattleperson can buy with great
confidence knowing their purchase will
be what they are looking for.
All vendors selling at our National
Sale are Certified Charbray breeders
carrying the Society’s trademark; this
gives another layer to our purchasers
buying confidence. With the quality of
bulls ever improving at our National Sale,
more studs are vying to buy these highly
sought after genetics which culminates
in a successful sale for vendors and our
Society as a whole.
