Volunteers Overview and Best Practices Volunteers are a vital part to the success of The Salvation Army’s Christmas programs. Whether it be at the kettle, sorting toys, or serving meals the experience of a volunteer during the holidays is something they will always remember. Not only is working with volunteers beneficial to accomplish our mission of “Doing the Most Good”, it is also an opportunity for a lifelong relationship of support. Recruitment and Responsibilities Social Service Program/Corps Site • Identify volunteers through online recruitment, flyers, emails, news releases to local media, and last year’s volunteer lists, as well as by talking with DHQ’s Development Department • Provide overview of The Salvation Army and population served • Provide site tour • Informal interview with Executive Director, Officer or designee 1. Determine role 2. Determine if it’s a good match • Provide oversight / supervision for volunteer • Ensure tracking of volunteer hours 1. Have volunteer sign-‐‐in at the beginning of every shift a) Utilize form provided by development department 2.
