THE NEW MONTHLY MAGAZINE
OF VIVE HEALTH & FITNESS
e are excited to introduce the new
look of the VIVE monthly magazine,
Pulse! This name fits perfectly with
the purpose of the magazine, which
is to serve as the Pulse of the Club –
communicating news and events and providing useful
health and fitness information.
You’ll find old favorites like the monthly group
schedule updates, shake of the month, upcoming
events and Club announcements. You will also notice
new features. One in particular is My VIVE. The essence
of My VIVE is to show that there is something for
everyone at our Club. Each person who walks through
our doors does so for a different reason, which is what
My VIVE will highlight each month. Our goal with this
approach is to create a sense of community amongst
our staff and members and show how special and
unique VIVE really is. To kick it off this month, we are
featuring VIVE founder, Diane. In addition to My VIVE,
we’ve added Move of the Month, which features a
fitness exercise or workout; Nutrition Corner, which
provides a nutrition fact and recipe; VIVE Perks,
which highlights a VIVE member benefit; and Physical
Therapy Tidbits, which features a monthly tidbit from
VIVE’s in-house physical therapist, Frank Cawley.
We sincerely hope you enjoy Pulse. If you have any
requests for future topics you’d like to see featured,
please email info@vivehealthandfitness.com. Happy
reading!
NUTRITION corner
THIS MONTH’S NUTRITION FACT:
DID YOU KNOW September is National Fruit and Vegetable Month? Among
adults, less than 1 in 4 and 1 in 7 eat the recommended amount of fruits and
vegetables every day. Eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and veggies can
help you reach and maintain a healthy weight, lower your risk of disease, and
keep your body strong and active. To fit more fruits and vegetables into your
diet, keep a bowl of washed fruit visible and handy, cut up fruits and veggies
ahead of time so they’re ready to eat, and fill half your plate with fruits and
veggies at every meal and snack!
Recipe of the Month:
Pineapple & Black Bean Salad
This salad makes for a healthy and delicious side
dish and is quick and easy to prepare – perfect for
those busy weeknights!
INGREDIENTS (serves 4)
1 fresh pineapple
1 can (15 oz.) black beans, lowsodium,
rinsed and drained
3 cups brown rice, cooked
1/2 cup celery, sliced
this belief throughout VIVE and provide a structuring
of services that would result in an exceptional experience
for our members.
Every day since our opening, VIVE has remained true to my
initial goal and purpose. We’ve created a warm and friendly
environment where our members feel right at home and have
the necessary support and tools to achieve overall health.
This is very special to me because the focus of VIVE is on our
members who collectively make up our own unique wellness
community. Regardless of our members’ individual needs, VIVE
is their personal oasis, ready to provide the kind of experience
they so deserve.
EMBRACE the
CHANGE
We all know change is a constant in life, but it seems as if most of us have a hard
time adjusting to it, even if it the change is positive.
WE ALL KNOW CHANGE IS A CONSTANT in life, but it seems
as if most of us have a hard time adjusting to it, even if it the
change is positive. As VIVE continues to evolve, our members
are always our number one priority, and when we switch
things up at the Club, it’s meant to enhance VIVE and meet
members’ needs and exceed expectations. Everything we do is
rooted in the desire to make VIVE the best fitness club for
our members.
There are many positive changes that have occurred or are
occurring at VIVE. Some include:
• This summer’s outdoor workouts that were held every other
Saturday at Church Street Park
• The several new pieces of equipment in the weight area
• Our investment in the new software operating system,
which will enhance efficiency
• Class additions to the group exercise schedule to mitigate
boredom
• The new Pulse magazine
These are just a few of the most recent, and we look
forward to rolling out additional new programming in the
coming months. We enjoy creating an innovative atmosphere
that keeps members engaged and satisfied.
As we’ve already explained, the VIVE monthly newsletter
is no longer just that. It has been given a complete make-over
and is now a much more comprehensive publication with
many more features. We encourage you to take what you read
in our magazine and use it to help you reach your health and
fitness goals. The information provided in each publication
is intended to assist you in attaining those positive, healthy
changes you are trying to make within yourself.
As we continue to give you, our members, the health club
experience you deserve, changes will naturally occur – some
might be evident and others not so much. However, always
remember, everything we do is with our members in mind.
We hope you look forward to reading Pulse each month. Enjoy!
Everything we do is rooted in
the desire to make VIVE the best
fitness club for our members.
THE TURKISH GET-UP
MOUNDS BAR
IF YOU’RE
A CHOCOHOLIC,
you’re bound to love this
month’s shake – Mounds Bar!
The best part is, it tastes just like
its namesake, but is much healthier
and will aid in your recovery after a
tough workout.
SHAKE OF THE MONTH
INGREDIENTS:
Your choice of milk, pineapple puree, chocolate
whey protein, Chocoholic’s Choice and coconut.
VIVE
PERKS:
THE TURKISH GET-UP (TGU) can be done with kettlebells, dumbbells
and even a barbell. A TGU involves moving from a supine position
(laying on your back) to a bridge position to a half kneeling lunge
position and then coming to a complete stand, all while balancing a
weight at arm’s length overhead. Once in the standing position, you
reverse the entire move and end back on the ground in the original
starting position.
The act of moving fluidly through these positions while supporting
weight overhead is a challenge for your core and hip musculature, as
well as the supporting structures in your shoulder girdle. It is a full
body strength and/or conditioning exercise (depending on weight/
rep schemes) and can build lean muscle, while also helping to burn
body fat. There are several modified variations, so anyone can take
advantage of a TGU, regardless of fitness level.
See a member of VIVE’s training team to learn how to perform this
unique, effective exercise, so you can add it to your routine.
