THE TURKISH GET-UP
MOUNDS BAR
IF YOU’RE
A CHOCOHOLIC,
you’re bound to love this
month’s shake – Mounds Bar!
The best part is, it tastes just like
its namesake, but is much healthier
and will aid in your recovery after a
tough workout.
SHAKE OF THE MONTH
INGREDIENTS:
Your choice of milk, pineapple puree, chocolate
whey protein, Chocoholic’s Choice and coconut.
VIVE
PERKS:
THE TURKISH GET-UP (TGU) can be done with kettlebells, dumbbells
and even a barbell. A TGU involves moving from a supine position
(laying on your back) to a bridge position to a half kneeling lunge
position and then coming to a complete stand, all while balancing a
weight at arm’s length overhead. Once in the standing position, you
reverse the entire move and end back on the ground in the original
starting position.
The act of moving fluidly through these positions while supporting
weight overhead is a challenge for your core and hip musculature, as
well as the supporting structures in your shoulder girdle. It is a full
body strength and/or conditioning exercise (depending on weight/
rep schemes) and can build lean muscle, while also helping to burn
body fat. There are several modified variations, so anyone can take
advantage of a TGU, regardless of fitness level.
See a member of VIVE’s training team to learn how to perform this
unique, effective exercise, so you can add it to your routine.
