case there's no means of protecting oneself against it.<br />

I didn't realise that ricochet firing had such a destructive<br />

effect. Keitel has always favoured that technique.<br />

A shell from one of our field-guns, which weighs only sixteen<br />

kilos, produces on the enemy the effect of a heavy shell.<br />

In the technique of armament, we shall always be superior<br />

to the others. But we ought to preserve the lesson of history<br />

and take care, after the war, not to allow the others to penetrate<br />

our secrets. No new invention will be permitted to be<br />

published without a special authorisation issued by an office<br />

set up for this purpose—even as regards countries with which<br />

we're linked by agreements.<br />

I've realised one thing. The worst of Freemasonry is not so<br />

much the philosophic side as the fact that it's an immense<br />

enterprise of corruption. It's a handful of men who are<br />

responsible for the war.<br />

Churchill's predestined opponent was Lloyd George. Unfortunately,<br />

he's twenty years too old. The critical moment<br />

was when Chamberlain and Daladier returned from Munich.<br />

Both of them should have seen very clearly that the first thing<br />

to do was to dissolve their parliaments. If Daladier had<br />

organised an election, the fire-eaters would have been routed.<br />

The whole people would have approved of the peace-policy.<br />

But it was only a respite, and the agitators were not slow to<br />

raise their heads again.<br />

England and France are engaged in losing what in our eyes<br />

is only a fictitious wealth—that is to say, gold and foreign<br />

holdings. Their true wealth, which nobody can take away from<br />

them, is their human potential (but on condition that it's used<br />

in such a way as to exploit the country's natural resources).<br />

This war will have helped to originate one of the world's
