Steelers, and Thomson?s Iron Men became the Eagles. This deal was one of the most
unusual swaps in football history.
World War II had a big impact on the NFL. The Steelers decided to draft many
married players, hoping that they wouldn?t be drafted for the military. During this time,
the Steelers also went through a couple of head coaches. The team still had a losing
streak, and they weren?t looking too good. Although the Steelers tried, the team still
lost some key players to the military. The next few years for the Steelers had lots of
ups and downs.
Then, the Steelers finished first in the league but lost in the playoffs to the Miami
Dolphins in 1973. This was still a great game because of the close score and high
intensity of the game. In 1974, the Steelers won their first Super Bowl against the
Minnesota Vikings. The score was 16-6. After 42 years, they finally did it! The next year,
they did it again and had an even better season, ending with another Super Bowl win
against the Dallas Cowboys in a tight game that ended 21-17. The Steelers didn?t make
the playoffs for two years until 1978 when they won their third Super Bowl. This game
was against the Dallas Cowboys and ended with a score of 35-31. The following year,
they won their fourth Super Bowl in 1979 against the Los Angeles Rams. The game
ended with a score of 31-19. The Steelers were in decline and the next time they made
a Super Bowl appearance wasn't until 1995. However, they lost this game to the Dallas
Cowboys with a score of 27-17. Up until this point, all of the Steelers games have been
at Three Rivers Stadium. The 2000 season was their last season playing there.
In 2001, they opened the stadium we know and love today, Heinz Field. The next
few seasons were rough until 2005 when the Steelers made another Super Bowl
appearance. The game was great and the Steelers pulled out a win against the
Seahawks with a score of 21-10. This Super Bowl tied the Steelers for most Super Bowl
titles at 5 with the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. The Steelers didn't
make another Super Bowl appearance until three years later in 2008. The Steelers
faced the Arizona Cardinals. It was a great fought game, ending in a Steeler win to
become the first team ever to win six Super Bowl titles. The Steelers have not won any
more Super Bowls since 2008, but keep rooting for your hometown Pittsburgh
Steelers.
