More Sleep Is Bet t er
By: Anna Peart
Do you get enough sleep? If not, it can cause lots of problems. Getting lots of sleep is very
important, especially in your teenage years when you are growing. During this time you need to
get as much sleep as possible. While you are asleep, ?important body functions and brain
activity occur,? according to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF). Not sleeping can be very
harmful to a teen?s body, and performance in school may even decrease. Teenagers are
generally pretty moody with all the hormones flaring, why would they want to make themselves
even more moody by not getting enough sleep? Sleep is just as important as the water you
drink, the food you eat, and the air you breathe. Getting sleep can help you manage the stress
of being a teen.
Did you know, according to the National Sleep Foundation, that teens need about 8-10 hours of
sleep each night to function? It is important to go to bed early, especially on school nights. You
might think that staying up at night is not a big deal, but it can drastically affect your daily life.
The (NSF) says, ?Not getting enough sleep can limit your ability to learn, listen, concentrate, and
solve problems.? If experts think it is important, shouldn?t you?
Loss of sleep can cause you to even forget things you normally would not forget. These
include: names, homework, numbers, and dates with special people in your life. Forgetting
these simple things can cause some issues. You?re having a conversation with your best friend
and you forget something very important they told you the day before. They get mad and now
you are in a fight with your best friend. Another example: You?re talking with your mom or dad
and they are telling you to go do something like chores. You are so tired that you aren?t paying
attention and didn?t hear what they told you to do, so you don?t do it. Now you end up getting
in trouble for not paying attention and forgetting to do your chores. You wouldn't want that
would you?
Not getting enough sleep can actually make you more prone to pimples, too! The absence of
sleep can lead to acne and other skin problems. Nobody likes acne, so why get more of it just
because you want to stay up late and get in a few more episodes of your favorite show on
Netflix or play videos games with your buddies? Less sleep can make you want to eat unhealthy
foods and more of them, which can lead to weight gain. Some unhealthy foods can contribute
to the acne, too.
