the umbilical cord of the newborn has declined from 59 to 52 percent. In contrast, use of the recommended practice of drying the newborns within 5 minutes of birth has increased substantially, from 51 to 67 percent. Adherence to recommended practices regarding initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth and delayed bathing of the newborn has increased in the last three years. The recommended practice of first bathing babies at least 72 hours after birth has increased from 17 percent in 2007 to 28 percent in 2011 and further increased to 34 percent in 2014. Initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth increased from 50 percent in 2011 to 57 percent in 2014.
