the umbilical cord of the newborn has declined from 59 to 52 percent. In contrast, use of the recommended<br />

practice of drying the newborns within 5 minutes of birth has increased substantially, from 51 to 67 percent.<br />

Adherence to recommended practices regarding initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth<br />

and delayed bathing of the newborn has increased in the last three years. The recommended practice of first<br />

bathing babies at least 72 hours after birth has increased from 17 percent in 2007 to 28 percent in 2011 and<br />

further increased to 34 percent in <strong>2014</strong>. Initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth increased from<br />

50 percent in 2011 to 57 percent in <strong>2014</strong>.<br />
